Student answer (Band 6.5)

Few individuals think that in this digital era, theatre and cinemas are no longer essential as individuals can watch all the entertainment they want online platform, because in this most people have mobile phone they can watch anything they want to watch various online platform. Other believe that theatres and cinemas are still crucial for both economically and culturally, because many people want to watch movie in cinemas and theatre due to this economy increase also we maintain our culture by giving performance in theatre. This essay favor in latter school thought.

To begin with the first statement, in this modern era we easily watch any movie and programs by different online platform. In this contemporary era people have lack of time due to this they prefer watch movie and performance on online platforms due to this they save many and travelling time, but they can not feel cinemas vibe when they watch movie at home. To give an example, according to my sister experience, she have lack of time due her busy schedule she watch movie on Netflix platform but she can not feel cinema vibes.

On the other hand, other people argue that todays era theatre and cinemas are important for both economically and culturally. In todays time many people prefer to watch movie and drama at cinemas and theatres. Specially when famous actor and actress film release in cinema at that time all cinemas booking full in advance for one week, due to this people visit the cinema they buy many snacks and drinks due to this sales increase. To quote an illustration, according to entertainment survey, nowadays lots of people prefer to watch movie in cinemas also this number increase compare to past.

To conclude, many people think that due to digital era, theatres and cinemas are becoming less important because people can watch all the things online but they can't feel cinema vibes, whereas other people thinks that it was important for economically and culturally because many people prefer to watch movie in cinemas.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both views and provides a clear position in the introduction. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the argument regarding 'cinema vibes' is mentioned multiple times without significant expansion or deeper analysis. The economic and cultural points are touched upon but lack specific, well-explained examples; the mention of 'snacks and drinks' is a superficial economic argument. To reach a higher band, you should aim to provide more nuanced explanations of how theatres contribute to cultural identity or specific economic impacts beyond simple ticket sales. The conclusion is also quite brief and merely restates the introduction rather than synthesising the arguments presented.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often repetitive and mechanical. Phrases like 'due to this' are used excessively throughout the text, which disrupts the flow and makes the writing feel somewhat simplistic. While there is an attempt to use transition words like 'To begin with' and 'On the other hand', the internal logical progression within paragraphs is sometimes hindered by awkward phrasing and repetitive sentence structures. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing (e.g., 'this', 'these') is precise would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on basic terms like 'important', 'watch', and 'people' repeatedly. There are also some issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'latter school thought' (should be 'latter school of thought') and 'famous actor and actress film release' (which is grammatically and lexically awkward). While the meaning is clear, the lack of sophisticated or less common vocabulary limits the score. To improve, focus on learning topic-specific collocations related to entertainment and economics, and try to avoid repeating the same basic verbs.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'she have lack of time', 'other believe'), missing articles (e.g., 'in cinemas and theatre'), and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'in this most people have mobile phone'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While the errors do not completely prevent understanding, they are frequent enough to suggest a lack of control over more complex grammatical forms. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would be highly beneficial.
