Student answer (Band 6.5)

Few individuals argue that in the internet era, theaters and cinemas are not more essential as citizens spent their time watching movies online. While, others believe that theaters and movies are still crucial both financially and traditionally. From my perspective, I believe movie theaters still hold importance. This essay highlights positive effects and negative effects on importance of theaters.

On the one hand, theaters play an important role in many sectors. Firstly, producers has invested heavily in the movie if it is not published in movie theaters it will not profitable. It is unfair for the people who work hard for it. Secondly, individuals need the good atmosphere to enjoy the movie and it will get only if the theaters are open. There are several benefits of having movie theaters such as, it holds a strong portion in economic of the country. If the movie have majorities of the screens worldwide there are more possibilities to make profit and it will be beneficial for the country. For instance, last year Hollywood contributed 4-5% of the U.S GDP, equivalent to roughly around 1-1.5 trillion$.

On the other hand, in today's world people are more attracted to digital platforms. Because it is more easily accessible and way more cheaper than the movie theatres. The major difference is of money. For instance, one can buy the normal subscription of a Netflix in 200 rupee alternatively, the movie ticket can cost higher then one subscription.

To conclude, movie theaters are essential for entertainment purpose as well as financially and culturally it holds more importance. Digital platforms are good but it can't replace the theaters.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the economic argument regarding Hollywood's contribution to GDP is a bit vague and lacks a direct link to why physical cinemas are essential compared to digital distribution. The essay structure is logical, but the arguments could be more deeply explored to reach a higher band. The introduction is slightly repetitive, and the conclusion is brief. To improve, ensure that each point is fully supported with clear reasoning and specific, relevant examples that directly address the prompt's focus on the cultural and economic importance of cinemas.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the argument. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the one hand', 'Firstly', and 'To conclude', though some transitions feel a bit mechanical. There are minor issues with referencing and flow; for example, the sentence 'The major difference is of money' is somewhat abrupt. Additionally, the use of 'it' in the second paragraph is occasionally ambiguous, making it slightly difficult to track the subject. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer to their antecedents would enhance the overall flow and coherence of the essay.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'essential', 'economically', and 'accessible'. However, there are instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'not more essential' instead of 'no longer essential' and 'way more cheaper' (a grammatical error combined with a lexical one). The phrase 'majorities of the screens' is also unnatural. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding informal phrasing like 'way more'. Expanding the range of topic-specific vocabulary related to the film industry would also be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the reader's flow. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('producers has invested', 'movie have majorities'), incorrect comparative forms ('way more cheaper'), and awkward phrasing ('if it is not published in movie theaters it will not profitable'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some missing articles and awkward sentence constructions. To improve, focus on mastering subject-verb agreement and the correct formation of comparative adjectives. Proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy would significantly improve the quality of the writing.
