Student answer (Band 6.5)

Cinemas and theatres are the mirror of a nation. It reflects the culture and the tradition of a country. It is believed by some people that, Theaters and cinemas are no longer significant as people nowadays can enjoy all the entertainment they want via online, While others argue that , theaters and cinemas are beneficial both culturally and financially. I consider that theaters and cinemas are now not so beneficial as they were before.

On the one hand, Theatres are still now a special place for some people . Firstly, Elderly people used to go the theaters regularly to enjoy films or plays, and this practice is still now running, as they have not yet been introduced with social media. Some tourists, whenever they visit a new county , they try to go to the theatres to enjoy some traditional films. Their main reason is to know about the culture of a new country, and films are the good way to know about this. As a result, film makers and theatre owners are getting beneficial both financially also culturally this is an important impact.

On the other hand, Modern era has changed the world in recent time. Social platforms have made our life smoother than before. Entertainment now is in our hands, inside a mobile phone or a laptop screen. Young people now a days are not willing to go the theatres to watch films. Eventually, Theatres are losing their customers. Now films are available in online for free, that influence young people to watch it in online via YouTube or using other social platforms. Subsequently, Cinemas are losing it's audience. As a result, Cinemas are not getting the revenue that they used to earn before.

To sum up, I would like to reiterate my opinion that, Theatres and cinemas are now in a great danger. Globalization has made the world narrower, as well as the access to entertainment has become much easier than before.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding the elderly and tourists is a good start but lacks depth or specific examples to fully support the claim of economic and cultural importance. The counter-argument regarding digital entertainment is relevant but relies on generalizations about young people. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your points with more detailed explanations or concrete examples. Your position is consistent throughout the essay, which is a strength.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use some cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'To sum up' to guide the reader. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly repetitive. Additionally, there are instances where the flow between sentences could be smoother; for example, the transition between the discussion of tourists and the conclusion of that paragraph is a bit abrupt. Paragraphing is used appropriately, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'globalization', 'revenue', and 'entertainment'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'this practice is still now running' (should be 'continuing') and 'getting beneficial' (should be 'benefiting'). There is also a tendency to repeat basic words like 'films' and 'theatres'. To improve, try to incorporate more precise synonyms and collocations to demonstrate a wider range of vocabulary and better control over word choice.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation. Common issues include incorrect article usage ('the theaters'), subject-verb agreement ('It reflects' referring to plural 'Cinemas and theatres'), and punctuation errors, such as unnecessary commas after 'that' or 'argue that'. Additionally, there are minor errors with possessives ('it's' instead of 'its'). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy would significantly improve your writing.
