Student answer (Band 6.5)

The theatres had always been an integrated part of entertainment industry. There is an ongoing debate concerning the importance of the cinemas. A group of people argues that the movie theatres and cinemas are losing popularity, as the same content is available on internet. Other people believes that they are of paramount importance both economically as well as culturally. Both the viewpoints are elaborated in detail with significant examples in ensuing paragraphs.

The proponents of the former view argues that the cinemas are of mere importance to the viewers. This can be attributed to the enhancement in the technology and availability of this content on internet and websites. For instance, all the movies are now available on various platform such as Netflix, Prime Video and Hotstar. Moreover, it provides the flexibility to watch anytime and anywhere -which is a major benefit of this. Therefore, it is more convenient to watch at digital platform rather than at cinema halls.

The advocates of the latter view believes that theatres are associated with the culture and prosperity. As it provides the real life experience with better visuals and sound effects. One of the most significant example of this is the IMAX cinema halls, they are among the best theatres across the globe. As, one can enjoy the 3D effects with realistic sound quality and it allows the new perspective of seeing movie. Additionally, one can see the movie or show on the same day of release rather than waiting for them to available on internet.

I personally believe that the experience at the movie theatre is far more better than the websites and apps. This act will also help us to make our culture of theatre alive.

On the way to conclude, i reaffirm my statement that cinemas are far more better than the online website

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention economic and cultural importance, the economic aspect is not fully explored, and the cultural argument relies heavily on the technical features of IMAX rather than broader societal impacts. To reach a higher band, ensure that each viewpoint is supported by more nuanced reasoning. Your position is clear, but the conclusion is brief and lacks a summary of the main arguments presented, which would have strengthened the overall task response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'For instance', and 'Additionally' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is slightly disjointed, particularly in the final paragraph. The use of referencing is generally clear, but the concluding sentence is abrupt and lacks a proper cohesive link to the rest of the essay. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'paramount importance', 'proponents', and 'advocates'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'The theatres had always been an integrated part' (should be 'integral') and 'far more better' (a redundant comparative). While you attempt to use less common vocabulary, the range is somewhat restricted, and some phrasing is repetitive. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding redundant intensifiers like 'more better'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('Other people believes', 'proponents... argues') and missing articles ('on internet' should be 'on the internet'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some awkward phrasings that slightly impede the flow. While you attempt complex sentences, the control is inconsistent. To achieve a higher score, focus on correcting basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring consistent use of articles and prepositions.
