Student answer (Band 7.0)
Nowadays, some people think they can watch movies online in their households and argue that theatres and cinemas are unnecessary. But others argue that they are important for both the economy and the culture. In my opinion, I think theatres and cinemas are very important for the society and I will discuss the reasons behind my opinion in this essay with examples.
Generally, in todays world everything is digtal so naturally many people are preferring to watch movies and shows in their homes with comfort. Even I sometimes like to watch movies and shows on my mobile in my room rather than going out and spending money to watch movies. Its mainly becasue nowadays many apps like netflix, amazon prime, hotstar and many other streaming services are available for same amount as a movie ticket, so people started using them more and going out less to watch movies. Subsequently, many movies and shows are exclusively released on specific streaming platforms rather than releasing in theatres and attracting many people to these streaming platforms.
Now coming to other side there are many people who regularly watch movies in theatres and like it that way due to the cinema experience that they can only get in theatres, like the movie quality , sound effects, fans shouting, 3D, popcorn and the overall expirence with watching a movie in theatre with friends and family. Specific filims are released in IMAX that can only be watched in IMAX theatres which have a seperate fanbase. Furtheremore, film industry employees many people from different backgrounds and its one of the major sources of income for the government. Running cinema halls and big theatres will create many jobs and create income for the local government. Moreover, these are a big part of the culture of a specific country. Many people travel to other countries to experience their local movies in their local cinema halls and movies are generally like a soft power for a country.
In conclusion, I think theatres and cinemas are very important for every country due to their benefits listed above and even in this digital age they are very important and governments should ensure that they stay in bussiness.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both the decline of theatres due to digital streaming and their ongoing economic and cultural importance. You clearly state your position in the introduction and maintain it throughout. The ideas are relevant and supported by examples, such as the mention of IMAX and the concept of 'soft power'. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are developed with more depth; for instance, you could elaborate on how exactly the government benefits economically from cinema beyond just job creation. Overall, the task is well-covered.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two opposing views. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Generally', 'Subsequently', 'Now coming to other side', and 'Moreover'. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or informal, such as 'Now coming to other side'. Improving the variety and sophistication of your linking words would enhance the flow. Referencing is generally clear, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow throughout the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, including terms like 'streaming platforms', 'soft power', and 'exclusively released'. There are some spelling errors, such as 'digtal', 'becasue', 'filims', 'Furtheremore', and 'bussiness', which are minor but noticeable. While you attempt to use less common vocabulary, the overall range is sufficient rather than wide. To improve, focus on accuracy in spelling and try to incorporate more precise collocations to express your ideas with greater nuance and sophistication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'in todays world' (missing apostrophe), 'film industry employees many people' (should be 'employs'), and 'for the society' (should be 'for society'). Punctuation is occasionally inconsistent, particularly with comma placement. Despite these errors, they do not impede communication. To achieve a higher score, focus on subject-verb agreement and ensure that complex sentences are constructed with greater precision and fewer minor slips.
