Student answer (Band 6.5)

During the last few decades, numerous technological revolutions have changed the movies industry. With the creation of internet, some means of entertainment gained in popularity and others saw a dramatic decline. While some argue that cinemas and theatres are no longer a major actor of the industry others believe that it is not the case and they both still maintain an important economical and cultural presence.

As far as I am concerned, I truly believe that there is no real reason to feel worried about both theatres and cinemas future.

First of all, it is undeniable that new means of entertainment gained in popularity. With the invention of online platforms such Youtube or Netflix younger generations have switched from watching movies on the cinemas to watching them on their connected devices. Directly, decreasing their social and cultural importance. Which if in not addressed in the future can lead to dramatical economical losses.

However, considering only this perspective may overlook other important factors and lead to an incomplete understanding of the broader issue. As a matter of fact, even though the theaters have been less attractive to the younger audiences that is not the case for older ones. For instance, adults are still actively engaging with the cinemas more than ever. Moreover, the world's movie insustry has kept growing in valorisation achieving numbers that were once unthinkable. That is explained by the creation of numerous projects that are more ambitious than ever.

To conclude, even though at first glance theatres and cinemas seemed to lose in importance and in audiences. That proved to be inherintly not accurate and that a small portion of people do not represent the overall evolution of the field.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The essay addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the claim that 'adults are still actively engaging with the cinemas more than ever' is asserted without sufficient supporting evidence or specific examples. The discussion on economic and cultural importance is also quite general. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your points with more concrete examples or deeper analysis of why these venues remain relevant in the digital age. The position is consistent, but the supporting arguments lack the depth required for a higher score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use some cohesive devices such as 'First of all', 'However', and 'To conclude' to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and there are instances where sentence structure impacts flow, such as the sentence fragment 'Directly, decreasing their social and cultural importance.' Referencing is generally clear, but the connection between ideas could be smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the overall progression of the argument is easy to follow, though the internal cohesion within paragraphs could be more sophisticated.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'technological revolutions', 'dramatic decline', and 'ambitious'. There are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'major actor of the industry' (should be 'major player') and 'growing in valorisation' (which is not standard English in this context). Spelling errors like 'Youtube', 'insustry', and 'inherintly' are present. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise vocabulary usage and better proofreading to achieve a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with sentence fragments and punctuation. For example, 'Which if in not addressed in the future can lead to dramatical economical losses' is a dependent clause treated as a full sentence. Additionally, there are errors in article usage and preposition choice (e.g., 'on the cinemas' instead of 'in cinemas'). While your meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevent a higher score. Focusing on sentence boundaries and subject-verb agreement will be beneficial.
