Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is widely debated that individuals can cinemas and theatres loss their importance because nowadays, people cn watch movies online. Others argued cinemas and theatres still play a crucial role both economically and culturally. Although later view holds some validity, this essay maintains that watching movies in cinemas is unecessary due to several reasons. Those who advocates that theaters and cinemas are still important argue that many people prefer twatching movies in cinema because it offers many facilities that online websites can not provide, such as big screen and a good quality of a movie. Although cinemas have a ticket, it also provide many features, which online apps can not provide. This fee is highly beneficial economically. People often love to watch daramas on theatres, which is a very old tradition and they think the plays on theatre are connected with their culture. For instance, in Pakistan, many people love to watch a stage darama, while they can watch it online but they prefer to watch it live because they enjoy it more. Therefore, this is one of the primary reasons why proponents of this view hold this opinion. However, those who maintains the latter view believe that it is unnecessary to watch movies on cinemas. This is because they think that watching movies or any entertainment is available online, which do not charge anything and are easily accessible. In this modren era, all the entertainment is available on the websites or apps, such as youtube and facebook. These apps are freely available, so going to cinema and buying tickets are unnecesary, as individuals can now watch anything from anywhere. For example, a recent study illustrates that number of people, who watch movies or darama on theatres declined drastically after the introduction of online websites and electronic devices. Hence, this essay firmly agrees with this viewpoint because people nowadays prefer watching movies online rather than on cinemas. To sum up, Although cinemas and theatres are important both economically and culturally, watching movies online provide more facilities. Thus, i firmly agree with the former view, as it saves people money and it is easily accessible to everyone.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The essay addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive. For instance, the argument regarding 'online accessibility' is mentioned in both the second and third paragraphs. While the position is consistent, the reasoning could be more nuanced. The essay would benefit from deeper exploration of the 'economic' and 'cultural' aspects mentioned in the prompt, rather than focusing primarily on the convenience of online streaming. Overall, the response is relevant and meets the requirements of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the argument. Cohesive devices such as 'However', 'For instance', and 'To sum up' are used to link ideas. However, there are instances where the flow is slightly mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'online' and 'cinemas'. Referencing is generally clear, but some transitions between sentences feel abrupt. The logical progression is present, but the structure could be improved by ensuring each paragraph focuses on a distinct, non-overlapping point to enhance the overall flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks sophistication. There are several instances of word-choice errors and spelling mistakes, such as 'daramas' (dramas), 'modren' (modern), and 'unecessary' (unnecessary). The student relies on basic vocabulary and repeats certain terms frequently. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of precise, academic collocations and the presence of spelling errors limit the score. To reach a higher band, the student should focus on using more varied synonyms and ensuring accurate spelling of key terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'those who advocates', 'those who maintains') and article usage. Some sentences are clunky, such as 'Although cinemas have a ticket, it also provide many features'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable. The student should focus on proofreading for basic agreement rules and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed with greater accuracy.
