Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is widely debated that individuals lose their intrest in cinemas and theatres because nowadays, people can watch movies online. Others argue cinemas and theatres still play a crucial role both economically and culturally. Although latter view holds some validity, this essay maintains that watching movies in cinemas is unecessary due to several reasons. Those who advocate that theaters and cinemas are still important argue that many people prefer watching movies in cinema because it offers many facilities that online websites can not provide, such as big screen and a good quality of a movie. Although cinemas have a ticket, it also provides many features, which online apps does not have. This fee is highly beneficial economically. People often love to watch daramas on theatres, which is a very old tradition and they think the plays on theatre are connected with their culture. For instance, in Pakistan, many people love to watch a stage darama, while they can watch it online but they prefer to watch it live because they enjoy it more. Therefore, this is one of the primary reasons why proponents of this view hold this opinion. However, those who maintains the latter view believe that it is unnecessary to watch movies on cinemas. This is because they think that watching movies or any entertainment is available online, which are free and are easily accessible. In this modren era, all the entertainment is available on the websites or apps, such as youtube and facebook. Hence, going to the cinema and buying tickets are unnecesary, as individuals can now watch anything from anywhere. For example, a recent study illustrates that number of people, who watch movies or darama on theatres declined drastically after the introduction of online websites and electronic devices. As a result, this essay firmly agrees with this viewpoint because people nowadays prefer watching movies online rather than on cinemas. To sum up, Although cinemas and theatres are important both economically and culturally, watching movies online provide more facilities. Thus, I firmly agree with the former view, as it saves people money and it is easily accessible to everyone.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, there is a significant logical confusion in the second body paragraph. You state that those who 'maintain the latter view' believe it is unnecessary to watch movies in cinemas, but the 'latter view' in your introduction refers to the importance of cinemas. This contradiction makes your argument difficult to follow. While you provide relevant examples like stage dramas in Pakistan, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive, focusing heavily on convenience rather than exploring the deeper cultural or economic nuances mentioned in the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. You use cohesive devices such as 'However', 'Therefore', and 'To sum up' to link your thoughts. However, some transitions feel mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly when you confuse the two viewpoints in the second body paragraph. The use of cohesive devices is generally sufficient, but the internal flow within paragraphs could be improved by ensuring that the topic sentences clearly signal the argument being presented.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'advocate', 'proponents', and 'drastically'. However, there are several spelling errors ('intrest', 'unecessary', 'modren', 'daramas') and some awkward collocations, such as 'cinemas have a ticket'. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, the frequent spelling mistakes and limited variety in word choice prevent you from reaching a higher band. To improve, focus on mastering the spelling of common academic terms and expanding your range of synonyms for 'important' and 'convenient'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('online apps does not have', 'those who maintains') and article usage errors ('a good quality of a movie'). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable. You have attempted complex sentences, but they often contain minor slips. Focusing on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and consistent verb tense usage would significantly improve your accuracy.
