Student answer (Band 5.5)
A section of society believe that theather and cinemas are equally important culturally and economically. While other individuals hold the view that in morden era these are no longer needed because they see everything online. According to me cinemas and theatres are still important. People can watch movies at home, the experience of watching on a big screen with others is more enjoyable.
There are enough proof to show that why theatres are important. Cinemas have big screens and better sound quality. watching movies with family and friends is enjoyable in theatres. Cinemas promote art and culture and they support actors and artists as well. Moreover, watching with a large audience is more exciting. They create jobs for actors and other workers. They provide a better movie experience and people relax and reduce stress.
on the other hand, cinemas and theatres are no longer needed because indivivals can watch movies at home it saves travel time. People can pause and watch anytime. Home entertainment is more comfortable and streaming platforms are cheaper. Tickets and snacks at cinemas are expensive. Movies are available on phones, laptops and TVs and they are convenient as well.
According to me, Home entertainment is convenient but it can not replace the cinema experience and cinemas bring people together. Therefor, cinemas and theatres should continue to exist. Live theatre is valuable for culture and education.
In conclusion, both views have good points However, I believe cinemas and cinemas and theatres are still important because they provide a unique and enjoyable experience.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For example, the arguments regarding economic and cultural importance are listed rather than fully extended. The points made are relevant, but the essay lacks depth in its analysis of the 'economic' aspect mentioned in the prompt. The position is consistent throughout, but the supporting arguments could be more sophisticated to reach a higher band. The structure is clear, but the content remains at a general level.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. There is a progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. Phrases like 'Moreover', 'on the other hand', and 'In conclusion' are used, but the transitions between sentences within paragraphs could be smoother. Referencing is generally clear, although there are minor issues with sentence-level flow. The paragraphing is sufficient and appropriate for the task.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks range and precision. The student uses basic terms like 'enjoyable', 'important', and 'good points' repeatedly. There are some spelling errors, such as 'theather' and 'morden', and minor collocation issues like 'There are enough proof'. While the meaning is always clear, the lexical range is limited, and the student does not demonstrate the ability to use less common or more sophisticated vocabulary to convey nuanced ideas.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('A section of society believe') and punctuation errors (missing commas, capitalization errors like 'on the other hand' starting a sentence without a capital). While these errors do not impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. The range of structures is limited, and the control over complex sentences is inconsistent, which prevents the essay from reaching a higher band.
