Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both views but fails to develop the argument effectively. While you state your position clearly in the introduction, the supporting points are repetitive and lack depth. For instance, the second paragraph repeats the idea of buying a Netflix subscription three times in slightly different ways, which does not extend the argument. Furthermore, the final paragraph is incomplete and fails to provide a coherent conclusion or a balanced discussion of the economic and cultural importance of cinemas as requested by the prompt. To improve, ensure each paragraph introduces a distinct, well-supported idea rather than repeating the same point.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay uses some basic cohesive devices like 'First and foremost' and 'On the other hand', but the flow is frequently interrupted by repetition and structural issues. Paragraphing is present, but the final paragraph is fragmented and ends abruptly, which hinders the overall progression of ideas. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the mechanical repetition of phrases like 'they buy Netflix subscription' makes the text feel disjointed. To achieve a higher score, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence logically follows the previous one without unnecessary restatement.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. You use terms like 'modern technological devices' and 'online streaming platforms' correctly, but the constant repetition of 'Netflix subscription' and 'available' limits your lexical range. There is little evidence of less common or idiomatic vocabulary. To improve, try to use synonyms and more precise collocations. For example, instead of repeating 'available', you could use 'accessible', 'offered', or 'provided'. Expanding your vocabulary will help you express your ideas with more precision and variety.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('theatres and cinemas plays'), missing articles ('on this platforms'), and punctuation errors. The sentence structure is often repetitive, relying heavily on simple clauses. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be distracting. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and article usage. Additionally, try to incorporate more varied sentence structures, such as using relative clauses or conditional sentences, to demonstrate greater grammatical control.
