Student answer (Band 5.0)
Around the world, the importance of theatres and cinemas has been widely debated in recent years. Many people argue that in the digital age, they prefer watching online entertainment instead of going to theatres and cinemas, while others believe that theatres and cinemas play a crucial role economically and culturally. I am in favor of the former view.
First and foremost, youngsters are addicted to using mobile phones, so they prefer watching movies on modern technological devices, such as smart phones, tablets and laptops rather than going to cinemas. Nowadays, a large number of people use online streaming platforms, especially Netflix. Moreover, many people buy a Netflix subscription because a wide range of television series and movies is available on this platforms, including animated, action, science fiction, and horror movies. . Moreover, they buy Netflix subscription because every type of the series available on this platform as well as different movie categories available, including animated, action, science fiction, horror movies. Moreover, they buy Netflix subscription because every type of the series available on this platform as well as different movie categories available, including animated, action, science fiction, horror movies . They invest money in these platforms instead of spending money on travelling to theatres and cinemas.
On the other hand, there is a limited number of films available in cinemas and theaters this is the main reason citizens never prefer watching movies on these platforms. Furthermore, visitors enjoy watching movies because they learn about their culture and tradition. Residents go to cinema and theaters only on special occasions because they enjoy their celebrations. It is widely recognized that it affects on the economically and culturally but it is old fashioned . people like to go their only when new film releases on cinema and theatre that time it is the biggest source to earn money.
In conclusion, although many people argue that cinemas and theatres are still important both economically and culturally, I firmly believe that watching movies and television series on online platforms is a better option because it provides a wide variety of entertainment.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is inconsistent. The first body paragraph suffers from significant repetition, where the same point about Netflix subscriptions is restated three times, which hinders the depth of the argument. The second body paragraph is somewhat confused, as it attempts to discuss the importance of cinemas but then contradicts itself by stating that people do not prefer them. The argument lacks logical extension; for example, the economic and cultural importance mentioned in the prompt is not sufficiently explored or supported with specific examples, leading to a superficial treatment of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the internal flow is problematic. The use of cohesive devices is repetitive and sometimes mechanical, particularly the overuse of 'Moreover' in the first paragraph. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the second paragraph where the connection between 'visitors' and the subsequent points about culture is weak. The progression of ideas is disrupted by the repetitive sentences in the first paragraph, which makes the text feel disjointed rather than a cohesive argument. Paragraphing is present, but the transition between the two main viewpoints lacks sophistication.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There is significant repetition of basic phrases like 'watching movies' and 'Netflix subscription'. While some topic-specific vocabulary is used (e.g., 'streaming platforms', 'technological devices'), the expression is often simplistic. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'it affects on the economically', which is grammatically incorrect and lexically imprecise. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey the basic meaning, but it does not demonstrate the flexibility or control needed to move beyond a mid-range score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but accuracy is inconsistent. There are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, such as 'it affects on the economically', 'go their only when', and 'available on this platforms'. Subject-verb agreement and preposition usage are often problematic. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors is noticeable and occasionally distracts the reader. The range of structures is limited, and the attempts at complex sentences often contain errors that impede the flow of the writing.
