Student answer (Band 5.5)

Some people say that in the digital age, theatres and cinemas are no longer important as people can watch all the entertainment they want online while others argue that theatres and cinemas are still important both economically and culturally. I think some people are not like to go outside but they prefer to spend time with family on their own house and watching movies online.

To commence with, one of the main benefits is that people can watch movie comfortable on their house and also enjoy snacks and drinks. To clear it precisely, most of people think that it was waste of money to go outside and spend money on tickets and snacks rather they prefer to stay at home and enjoy movies or series without spending money. Moreover, watching movies online is more convenient and comfortable. For example, mainly this era was more arise in Covid pandemic due to lockdown all theatres and cinemas are closed. People prefer to watch movies and web-series online they found that it is more useful than watching theatres and cinemas.

However, some argues that theatres and cinemas are still important both economically and culturally. Funds or money is important for maintenance. Some people are still like to go for theatres to watching movies because they feel it more joyful experience. To clear it, it was a great experience to see movie on big screen as compared to mobile screen. For example, watching movies on theatres and cinemas is sustain our culture. I think watching movies online is more helpful because it saves money for buying tickets and other expenses. Watching movie in a comfortable way is more important so this can maintain at our own house.

In conclusion, both views are benefited on their own way but watching movies online is more reliable as compared to watching movies on theatres and cinemas.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention economic and cultural importance, the points remain superficial. For instance, the argument about 'sustaining culture' is mentioned but not explained or supported with specific examples. The discussion of the digital age is repetitive, focusing heavily on convenience and cost-saving. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the 'economic' aspect by discussing job creation or the impact on local businesses, and provide more nuanced cultural arguments beyond just the 'big screen' experience.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion'. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'To clear it precisely' or 'To clear it'. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, and the transition between ideas within paragraphs could be smoother. The progression of ideas is generally logical, but the lack of sophisticated linking words makes the flow feel a bit disjointed at times.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for higher bands. You rely on simple, repetitive phrases like 'watch movies', 'spend money', and 'comfortable'. There are also some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'this era was more arise' and 'both views are benefited on their own way'. To improve, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and collocations related to the topic of media, entertainment, and economic impact.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'some argues', 'theatres and cinemas are closed'), incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'not like to go', 'is sustain our culture'), and missing articles. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. You should focus on proofreading for basic tense consistency and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed accurately.
