Student answer (Band 6.0)

In today's modern world, the sources of entertainment have been developed drastically due to the continuous advancements in science and technology. Therefore, the popularity of watching movies in theatres and cinemas is declining sharply in this digital era as a huge proportion of public watch films on numerous online platforms such as Disney plus, Netflix, and You-tube. Some people believe this as positive change, while other rejects this notion. This essay will discuss its both aspects in the upcoming paragraphs with relevant illustrations.

To commence with, the major reason in favor of the fact that why cinemas are no longer indispensable source of entertainment among most of the audience is that technology has made life more convenient and comfortable. Nowadays, approximately everyone has atleast one electronic gadget like smartphone, tab or laptop in their hands and also with the invention of internet, they can watch movies in these electronic gadgets. For instance people can watch films using internet more easily at any place, especially in their homes, rather than going to the theatres and cinemas.

On the other hand, theatres and cinemas are highly beneficial for the continuous economical growth of any nation. For example, it generates a plethora of employment opportunities for people, so that they can easily survive in high inflation

To recapitulate, although technology makes the methods of entertainment more convenient and reasonable for communities, the impact of the cinemas on economy and culture can never be neglected. Thus, in my view, we should use online sources for the purpose of entertainment, but the culture of going out in theatres with friends and family members should not be eliminated.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is uneven. While the first body paragraph provides some reasoning regarding convenience, the second body paragraph is significantly underdeveloped, offering only a brief mention of employment opportunities without sufficient explanation or examples. To achieve a higher band, you must expand on your points with more depth and specific illustrations. For instance, when discussing the economic impact, you could elaborate on how cinemas support local businesses, film distribution networks, or the tourism sector. The conclusion is present but feels rushed due to the lack of substance in the preceding arguments.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'On the other hand', and 'To recapitulate' are used to signal the structure. However, the transition between ideas within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical. The referencing is generally clear, but the flow of ideas is hindered by the brevity of the second body paragraph, which makes the overall progression feel somewhat disjointed. Improving the logical connection between sentences and ensuring each paragraph has a balanced structure would improve the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'indispensable', 'plethora', and 'advancements'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'reasonable for communities' (likely meaning 'accessible' or 'affordable') and 'the methods of entertainment'. There are also minor errors in the use of proper nouns and punctuation, such as 'Disney plus' and 'You-tube'. To improve, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensuring that your word choices are natural in the context of the argument. Avoid informal phrasing and ensure consistent spelling of common digital platforms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'discuss its both aspects' (should be 'discuss both aspects'), 'atleast' (should be 'at least'), and 'in these electronic gadgets' (should be 'on these electronic gadgets'). Additionally, there are issues with article usage and prepositional phrases. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. You should focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and preposition usage to ensure your complex sentences are error-free.
