Student answer (Band 6.0)
The digital era has significantly impacted the value of performing arts such as cinema and theatres which was once an important source of entertainment. Many people argue that the physical presence of entertainment is useless in the current internet era where people can simply watch their favorite shows at a click. Although some insists on the importance of presence of cinemas and theatres because they boost economy and strengthens the culture of a country. This essay will cover both view before I present my opinion on it.
The younger generation especially the ones who are tech-savvy are more inclined towards digital form of media. It gives them liberty to choose from a range of genres and artists; they can personalize this entire experience of entertainment for themselves which gives them sense of ownership. Additionally, this entire process is convenient as they can access any show from the comfort of their home. Moreover, the variety which is available is beyond any limits, you got the freedom to choose from any culture you like unlike the local cinemas and theatres which only promotes local themes. For example, the youth today is crazy for K-pop music and is admiring Korean culture.
On the other hand, some people especially from the older generation who has grown watching and appraising the physical performances cannot easily accept this change. Additionally, the cinemas and theatre performances boost revenue significantly. Despite the advancement of technology, for instance the Bollywood still releases blockbusters in the cinemas which attracts thousands of local and international audiences. Theatres are great form to express and promote local culture and provide insights to a country's values.
In my opinion both forms of media; the physical and the digital are crucial for the growth of a country's media industry. Efforts should be made to preserve the unique theatre performances and promote cinemas while utilizing the digital platforms to enjoy the international entertainment.
In conclusion, all forms of entertainment be it traditional cinemas and theatres or the exciting series on Netflix should be appreciated and valued for the performances and artists.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both the digital shift and the ongoing importance of physical venues. You clearly state your position in the introduction and conclusion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the digital advantages are well-explained, the economic and cultural arguments for cinemas and theatres are a bit brief. For example, mentioning 'Bollywood' is a good start, but explaining how these venues specifically contribute to local economies or cultural identity in more detail would have strengthened the response. Overall, the ideas are relevant and the position is consistent throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. You use a range of cohesive devices such as 'Additionally', 'Moreover', and 'On the other hand' to link your ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing. For instance, the sentence 'Although some insists on the importance of presence of cinemas...' is a fragment that lacks a main clause, which disrupts the flow. Improving the variety of linking phrases and ensuring that every sentence is grammatically complete would help the progression of ideas feel more natural and sophisticated.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'tech-savvy', 'personalize', and 'blockbusters' effectively. There are some instances of slightly unnatural word choices, such as 'appraising the physical performances' (where 'appreciating' would be more accurate) and 'great form to express' (which should be 'a great medium for expressing'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate that your control over collocation and precise word choice is still developing. To reach a higher band, focus on using more sophisticated collocations and ensuring words are used in their correct context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this level. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('some insists' instead of 'some insist') and article usage errors ('the Bollywood' instead of 'Bollywood'). Additionally, there are punctuation and phrasing slips, such as the semicolon usage in the final paragraph. While these errors rarely impede the reader's understanding, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and article consistency will significantly improve your accuracy.
