Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a personal opinion, meeting the basic requirements of the prompt. However, the development of ideas is very limited and repetitive. The arguments provided, such as 'old population are not going to cinemas', lack depth and logical support. The essay relies heavily on circular reasoning, repeating the same phrases about economic and cultural importance multiple times rather than extending the ideas with specific examples or analysis. Consequently, the response feels underdeveloped and fails to provide a convincing or well-supported discussion, which is necessary for a higher band score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression of ideas is weak. Cohesive devices are used in a very mechanical and often incorrect manner, such as the repetitive use of 'there fore' and 'for instance' to link unrelated or poorly constructed sentences. Referencing is often unclear, and the flow between sentences is frequently disrupted by grammatical errors. While there is an attempt to use transition signals, they do not effectively connect the ideas, making the overall structure feel disjointed and difficult to follow in several places.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive. The student frequently uses the same words and phrases throughout the text, such as 'theatres and cinemas', 'economically and culturally', and 'important'. There is a lack of variety and precision in word choice, and some collocations are awkward or incorrect, such as 'old humans' or 'others public'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas, and the persistent repetition significantly hinders the quality of the writing. To improve, the student needs to focus on synonyms and more sophisticated topic-specific terminology.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5

The grammatical range is very restricted, consisting mostly of simple, error-prone sentences. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'others public believe', 'theatres and cinemas are still is'), word order, and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or lack clear meaning due to these errors. Complex structures are attempted but are almost always faulty, leading to confusion. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods and incorrect usage of commas. The high frequency of basic grammatical errors consistently impedes communication throughout the essay.
