Student answer (Band 5.5)

In modern era, people can entertain easily at anytime and anywhere by using mobile devices and internet. Every kind of movies, songs and series is available on different apps in our phones. Some people believe that in the technical era, cinemas and theaters are not much important as people can watch all entertainment online. But, some others argue that cinemas are still important economically and culturally both.

This essay will discuss both point of views with arguments in detail and I will give my own opinion in the end.

To begin, in modern time, cinemas and theaters are replaced by modern inventions such as phones, laptops etc. According to first point of view, every type of entertainment is easily accessible on the internet by using various apps in our phones. By using internet, we can download various apps such as netflix, moviebox and prime video in our phones. Then, we can watch every movie, drama and song on these apps at our homes easily. So, Modern people prefer to watch movies online in their phones rather than to go outside in hectic and rush environment.

On the other hand, some people say that cinemas are still important because it represents their culture. In old times, people have a culture to go theaters to watch their favourite movies with their families and friends. It is the place where people spend time together which also creates a sense of love and affection with our families But in modern time, people have no interest of gathering because all have their own phones and internet which demolish their culture. It also weaken the economy of their country.

In conclusion, i think that cinemas should be important in modern era to maintain culture, affection of people and economy. Theaters should be promoted during this time for entertainment rather than to watch on their own phones.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While the first body paragraph explains the convenience of online entertainment, the second paragraph regarding the cultural and economic importance of cinemas is underdeveloped. The argument that cinemas 'demolish their culture' is a bit confusing, and the economic point is mentioned but not supported with specific examples or logical explanation. To reach a higher band, you should provide more depth and specific evidence for your claims, rather than relying on general statements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To begin', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or repetitive. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, such as the transition between the cultural importance of cinemas and the claim that modern technology 'demolishes' culture. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the flow of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some relevant topic-specific terms like 'accessible', 'hectic', and 'affection'. However, there is a reliance on basic vocabulary and some repetitive phrasing, such as 'modern time' and 'phones'. There are also minor errors in collocation, such as 'demolish their culture' (which sounds unnatural in this context) and 'no interest of gathering'. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated synonyms and collocations related to the topic of entertainment and social habits.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'In modern era' (missing article), 'economically and culturally both' (awkward word order), and 'it represents their culture' (subject-verb agreement error, as 'cinemas' is plural). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they occur frequently enough to limit your score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage will help improve your accuracy.
