Student answer (Band 5.0)
In this cutting age technology, movies are widely available at home with the usage of smart phones. There are plenty of people who still believe that Theatre and cinemas are relevant for society. While others do not agree with the idea and believes that it is not as important as before. This essay will discuss both views before giving my own opinion.
On the one hand, there are significant number of individuals who are on favor of theatres for many reasons. One of the main reason is that it provides the experience for which movies are made. Another reason is that it helps money to circulate in the economy and furthermore it also provides many family a bread and butter. However, in my opinion also theatres and cinemas are still important, as one can enjoy his quality time with his family or friends.
While on the other hand, where movies are available on the platforms such as Netflix, Amazon Prime etc., this is because it is much cheaper option for many and also a time saving option.
In recapitulation, both has its pros and cons, but the decision to choose which option is lies on the person's interest in movies. Those who are fond of movies are still choosing to go in cinemas, while others just buy the subscription on platform such as Netflix and Amazon Prime.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you address both views and state an opinion, the arguments are underdeveloped. For instance, the economic and cultural importance of theatres is mentioned but not explained or supported with specific examples. The conclusion is also quite brief and does not effectively synthesise the arguments presented. To improve, you must expand on your points with detailed explanations and relevant examples to ensure the response is fully developed and meets the length requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and limited. Phrases like 'On the one hand' and 'In recapitulation' are used, but the transitions between sentences within paragraphs could be smoother. The logical progression of ideas is occasionally hindered by the brevity of the arguments. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence supported by cohesive sentences would enhance the overall flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You use some relevant terms like 'digital age', 'subscription', and 'circulate', but there are instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'cutting age technology' (should be 'cutting-edge') and 'on favor of' (should be 'in favour of'). To achieve a higher score, focus on using more sophisticated collocations and avoiding repetitive or slightly inaccurate word choices. Expanding your vocabulary related to the topic of entertainment and technology would be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally affect clarity. Examples include 'believes that it is not' (subject-verb agreement error), 'one of the main reason' (should be 'reasons'), and 'provides many family a bread and butter' (awkward phrasing and article usage). While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and pluralisation will help improve your accuracy.
