Student answer (Band 5.0)

n today's digital age, many people believe that theatres and cinemas have become less important because a wide range of entertainment is readily available online. However, others argue that these venues continue to play a significant role in society by contributing to the economy and preserving cultural values. This essay will discuss both viewpoints before presenting my own opinion.

On one hand, in the this digital age we can watch online anything anytime on the internet totally free . in my opinion Netflix is the best example for this; we can watch movies online sitting at home, we dont have to go to cinemas or theatres, which is very easy for everyone without putting any efforts but it also make you lazy and cut you from the outside world.

On the other hand, going to cinemas play an important in the economically and culturally, for example the money we paying for the tickets will definitely escalate the economy of the country while the theatres play an important in the promoting of the culture where they can show the traditions, customs, language, heritage of the country. People will know your culture globally all around the world.

In conclusion, both have different kind of perspectives but in my opinion theatres and cinemas are more enjoyable with your friends sitting in the cinema rather than watching online and also it helps to increase the country economy and shows the world about the culture and history of country which give an identity of your country globally

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both viewpoints and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is limited. For example, the argument regarding the economic impact is vague, stating only that ticket sales 'escalate the economy' without explaining how or why. Similarly, the cultural argument is repetitive and lacks specific examples of how cinemas preserve heritage. To achieve a higher band, you need to extend your arguments with more detailed explanations and concrete evidence rather than relying on general assertions. The position is clear, but the supporting points are underdeveloped.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For instance, the transition 'in the this digital age' is grammatically awkward, and the use of 'in my opinion' in the second paragraph is slightly redundant. There is a lack of sophisticated linking words to connect ideas within paragraphs. While the overall progression is logical, the flow is occasionally interrupted by awkward phrasing and a lack of variety in transition markers.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on basic terms like 'important', 'good', and 'easy'. There are also some errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'escalate the economy' (which should be 'boost the economy') and 'play an important in the economically' (which is grammatically incorrect). To improve, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensuring that words are used in their correct grammatical form.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'we can watch online anything anytime' (incorrect word order), 'it also make you lazy' (subject-verb agreement error), and 'play an important in the promoting of the culture' (incorrect preposition and noun usage). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing capital letters at the start of sentences and improper use of commas. A greater focus on basic grammatical accuracy and sentence construction is needed.
