Student answer (Band 5.5)

Individuals have different opinion on the importance of theater and cinema, some argue that in the modern age where we can find everything online while others support because of it importance both economically and culturally. This essay will discuss both viewpoints before presenting my own opinion.

On the one hand, some people believe that theater and cinema are not important anymore because we have advance technology, where everything is available online that can be viewed through multiple electronic devices. Another reason could be the waste of time and energy. It is a hustle for some pupils to go and stand in que to get a ticket. For example individuals who are more of an introvert or are not comfortable in crowdy areas, choose to stay at home.

On the other hand, others argue that theater and cinema are important both traditionally and financially such that these keeps the cultural aspects alive and people can get to know the tradition of a country. For instance, it also benefits the economy of the country as it generates a good amount from the community who prefer watching entertainment on big screens and artists are also payed well for their efforts .

In conclusion, while both views have merit, I personally believe that while keeping the tradition alive, it also benefits the economy of the country. With the tickets available online, individuals can get it through websites. The amount generated from these entertainments can be used to provide facilities for the community and to pay the artists well.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a personal opinion, meeting the basic requirements of the task. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention economic and cultural benefits, the points are not fully extended with specific examples or deep analysis. For instance, the mention of 'artists are also payed well' is a general statement that lacks supporting detail. To reach a higher band, ensure that each main point is supported by a clear, illustrative example or a more detailed explanation of the 'why' and 'how' behind your arguments.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand' to signal shifts in the argument. However, the transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs is slightly mechanical. Additionally, some referencing is a bit unclear; for example, in the second paragraph, 'Another reason could be the waste of time' lacks a clear link to the previous sentence. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a strong topic sentence would enhance the flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'modern age,' 'cultural aspects,' and 'merit.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and spelling, such as 'crowdy' (should be 'crowded') and 'payed' (should be 'paid'). The vocabulary is generally functional but lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring correct spelling of common words. Expanding your range to include more topic-specific academic vocabulary would also be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'Individuals have different opinion' (missing article), 'it importance' (should be 'its importance'), and 'these keeps' (subject-verb agreement error). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but there are minor slips throughout. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Increasing the frequency of error-free complex sentences will help you move toward a higher band score.
