Student answer (Band 6.0)
Cinema has been an important and valuable part of our lives since the early 20th century. In the digital age, however, some people tend to believe that theatres and cinemas are no longer required as all the entertainment is available online. Others in contrast argue that they are still of utmost importance both economically and culturally. I agree with the later view.
People supporting online modes argue that online streaming platforms offers a number of variety and comfort. People can watch any movies or shows without spending money on travel, food or tickets. Also, the amount of content available on channels like Netflix, Amazon Prime and Hotstar outweighs the few movies releasing in theatres every few months. Saving time is also one of its beneficial aspect as one can always watch the movies according to their own convenience and availability of time.
However, I believe that cinemas and theatres are still valuable. Economically, they generate employment for the staff, cleaners, actors, crew members and local businesses contributing a good amount of share to the film industry. Culturally, it is a shared social experience that brings joy, excitement . For example, while watching Marvel movies in theatre surrounded by all the Marvel fans, it brings the kind of connectivity and enthusiasm that cannot be experienced by watching the same movie at home alone. Hence, though online platforms are of good use they cannot replace the years old cinema and theatre experience.
In conclusion, although digital platforms provide convenience, theatres and cinemas continue being a vital part of economic and cultural value. I believe both can coexist, but cinemas should not be counted as irrelevant.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the economic impact of cinemas and the social experience of viewing films. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the economic argument could be expanded with more specific examples beyond just listing job roles. The conclusion is clear, but the overall depth of the argument is more characteristic of a Band 6.5 or 7.0 response. The position is consistent throughout, and the main points are logically presented, though they could benefit from more detailed elaboration to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two opposing views. Cohesive devices such as 'However', 'In contrast', and 'For example' are used effectively to guide the reader. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions between sentences feel slightly mechanical. The referencing is clear, and the progression of ideas is logical throughout the text. Overall, the essay demonstrates a good level of coherence and cohesion, meeting the requirements for a Band 7.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate and appropriate for the task. You use some good collocations like 'digital age', 'utmost importance', and 'shared social experience'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies and repetitive phrasing, such as 'amount of content' and 'amount of share'. The range of vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, but it lacks the sophistication and precision required for a higher band. To improve, try to incorporate more varied and precise academic vocabulary to express your ideas with greater nuance.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'platforms offers' (subject-verb agreement) and 'the later view' (should be 'latter'). Additionally, 'years old cinema' should be 'years-old' or 'long-standing'. Despite these errors, the meaning is never obscured, and the punctuation is generally correct. The range of structures is sufficient for the task, but more consistent control over complex grammar would be needed for a higher score. The errors are non-systematic and do not impede communication.
