Student answer (Band 5.0)

A significant number of individuals think that in the tech era, theatres and cinemas are no longer indispensable because people can watch all the entertainment they want online. Others believe that playhouses are still crucial both economically and culturally. I am of the opinion that playhouses are essential. Because in movie house, massive screens are available where we can easily watch movies. This essay will examine both sides before presenting my own view.

On the one hand, a primary reason for supporting this view is that in contemporary time majority of people too addicted with their mobile phones, which effect their eyesight. However, cinemas provided you HD big screen so you can comfortably watch all the stuff whichever you want.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 148 words. Consequently, the development of ideas is severely limited. While you identify both sides of the argument and state your opinion, the discussion is superficial and lacks the necessary depth, examples, and logical extension required for an academic essay. You have not addressed the economic or cultural aspects mentioned in the prompt, focusing only on the physical experience of watching movies. To improve, you must expand each body paragraph with detailed explanations and relevant examples to fully explore the prompt's requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into short paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is weak due to the lack of content. While you use basic cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand' and 'Furthermore', the transitions between sentences feel mechanical. The ideas within the paragraphs are not sufficiently developed to create a logical flow. To improve, ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence followed by supporting arguments and examples that connect back to the main thesis, rather than just listing brief points.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. You use basic terms like 'stuff', 'fun moment', and 'joyful' which lack the precision expected in an academic context. There are also issues with word choice, such as 'in contemporary time' (should be 'in contemporary times') and 'movie house' (which is not standard usage). To achieve a higher band, you need to incorporate a wider range of topic-specific vocabulary related to media, economics, and culture, and focus on using words in their correct collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The grammar contains several errors that occasionally impede clarity. For example, 'majority of people too addicted' is missing a verb, and 'cinemas provided you HD big screen' contains tense and article errors. You rely mostly on simple sentence structures, and attempts at more complex sentences are often grammatically flawed. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct article usage, and ensuring that your sentence structures are complete. Practicing the use of complex sentences with accurate punctuation will also help improve your score.
