Student answer (Band 5.5)

We are living in the digital age as some people say theatres and cinemas are no more important for us because we can watch all the entertainment we want online. Others disagree with that statement , they said theatres and cinemas still hold important place both economically and culturally. I argue with both statement because we live in digital age all things available on internet while cinemas and theatres are still important.

Some people are right because we live in that age where all the things are available on the social media, websites, and digital platforms such as Youtube, Vidmate, Netmirror and Moviebox . These provide the source of joy and entertain us in our homes without going to cinema. The world is now just a click away, if we want to know anything we can search it on internet and they give everything aboout it. But I agree to some extent because there were a lot of ads while watching movies, dramas which are irritating the users and we have to buy subscription for some platforms . In contrast, they do not provide the large screen and environment like in the cinemas and theatre.

Theatres and cinemas are still financially and culturally significant for us because they generate a substantial revenue which strengths the economy of the country. They directly facilitate the economy of country and the digital platforms do not provide such type of environment because people enjoy 3D platform as they are happening in front of their eyes.

From my perspective, both are important in the digital age because online platforms save the time of the people while the cinemas and theatre provide the good environment and are financially important.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention economic and cultural significance, the points are not fully extended with specific examples or deep analysis. For instance, the mention of '3D platform' is vague and does not clearly explain the cultural value of cinemas. To reach a higher band, ensure that each main idea is supported by a concrete example or a more detailed explanation of the 'why' and 'how'. The position is consistent, but the arguments remain at a surface level throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some cohesive devices such as 'In contrast' and 'From my perspective' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs could be smoother. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, such as the use of 'they' in the second paragraph, which could refer to either the internet or the platforms. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring clear pronoun reference would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'economically and culturally significant' and 'digital platforms'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'strengths the economy' (should be 'strengthens') and 'as they are happening' (should be 'as if they were happening'). The vocabulary is generally functional but lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. To improve, focus on learning collocations and using more precise academic vocabulary rather than relying on general terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('they said theatres... still hold', 'they generate... which strengths') and punctuation errors (spaces before commas). Some sentences are slightly awkward, such as 'I argue with both statement'. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic tense consistency and subject-verb agreement will significantly improve your accuracy.
