Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is undeniable that entertainment sources has been altered with the advancements in technology. In this regard, some argue that with the introduction of online streaming platforms, cinemas and theatres will no longer be relevant as audiences are able to view the content digitally, while others maintain that individuals will still visit theatres for the overall experience. This essay will outline not only both the perspectives but also my opinion which is in favor of later point of view in the forthcoming fragments with a logical conclusion.

On the one hand, streaming films and series online offers undeniable convenience and financial benefits. Firstly, a single monthly subscription grants viewers unlimited access to vast libraries across various genres, eliminating the need to purchase individual tickets. To explain, individuals can stream plenty of series or movies with a affordable cost of subscription for one month. Furthermore, streaming removes scheduling constraints, allowing individuals to pause, play, or take breaks according to their leisure time. For example, if an urgent task arises while watching a movie on Netflix, users can simply pause the film and save it to watch later. Despite these advantages, home viewing often lacks the scale and atmosphere of a cinematic screening.

On the other hand, visiting a cinema provides a complete sensory experience that home setups cannot replicate. The prime one is that modern theatres are equipped with high-definition 8K projectors and Dolby Atmosphere surround sound systems that evoke powerful emotional responses. To elaborate, audience often demand a whole great energy from a movie which is provided by theatres. Moreover, many modern blockbusters are filmed specifically for specialized formats like IMAX, 3D, and 4DX, which require advanced cinema infrastructure to be fully appreciated. These technological features elevate moviegoing from simple viewing into a grand visual event.

In conclusion, although there are several merits of watching online movies for the entertainment purpose such as providing diverse genres, eradicates scheduling restriction, yet from my standpoint cinemas and theaters are relevant and impeccable for those who wants captivating experience as it provides effective sounds effect as well as a large screen with various amenities.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both the convenience of online streaming and the unique value of the cinematic experience. You clearly state your position in the introduction and maintain it throughout the essay. The ideas are well-developed, particularly the contrast between the convenience of home viewing and the sensory immersion of modern cinema. To reach a higher band, ensure that the economic and cultural aspects mentioned in the prompt are more explicitly addressed, as the current focus is primarily on convenience versus sensory experience. Overall, the response is well-structured and directly answers the task requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme, and cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'Furthermore', and 'Moreover' are used effectively to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and the concluding sentence is a bit long and cluttered, which affects the flow. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that the final summary is more concise would enhance the overall coherence. The paragraphing is appropriate and contributes to the logical progression of your argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with some precision, using terms like 'sensory experience', 'infrastructure', and 'scheduling constraints'. There are some minor collocation errors, such as 'a affordable cost' (should be 'an affordable cost') and 'whole great energy' (which is unnatural). While you attempt to use less common vocabulary, some phrasing feels slightly awkward. To improve, focus on more natural collocations and ensure that your word choices are consistently accurate. The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the sophistication and precision required for a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are several grammatical slips throughout the text, such as 'entertainment sources has been altered' (subject-verb agreement error) and 'those who wants' (should be 'those who want'). Additionally, the final sentence contains a run-on structure that makes it difficult to follow. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Increasing the number of error-free sentences and refining your control over complex structures will help you achieve a higher band.
