Student answer (Band 6.0)

As the technology changes rapidly, entertainment such as movies and documentary is the most crucial part of it. Some people believe that due to advancement in technology cinemas are less appealing While others argue that they are advantageous both economically and culturally. In this essay i examine both the viewpoints before explaining why I believe that they both are equally important if online streaming can be limited to some extent.

To begin with, as the generation move towards the digital advancement people are more likely to spent their time on streaming online movies and series. One reason is that it provide more flexibility and feasibility to the individual. For instance, people can spent their time in home or everywhere while being in the comfort zone. However, in certain studies it is predicted that the excessive online streaming may harm the health of individual and it can negatively impact our brain. Consequently, some parental supervision must be ensured while browsing movies.

Some people think that theatres and cinemas are still important. The reason behind this, it provides both economical and cultural advantage. For example, money earned from the theaters can be used in charity and NGO's. Furthermore, in certain cases it shows that people watching movies in theater are more rooted to their culture because some theater prohibited movies that are involved in adultery, thus it can not disregards the culture. Therefore, watching movies in theater and cinemas have equal importance.

In conclusion, although it can be seen that both of the side has several benefits, I would like to point out that online streaming is only advantageous when used with some limitations.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both viewpoints and provides an opinion, though the development is somewhat superficial. The arguments regarding the economic and cultural importance of cinemas are underdeveloped; for instance, the claim that theaters prohibit movies involving adultery is a weak and unsupported generalization. The essay attempts to discuss both sides, but the conclusion is brief and does not fully synthesize the arguments presented. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific, logical examples and ensure your position is clearly maintained and supported throughout the entire essay rather than just in the introduction and conclusion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'The reason behind this, it provides...' which lacks a proper grammatical link. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and some transitions between sentences feel abrupt. While the paragraphing is sufficient, the internal cohesion within paragraphs could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence flows naturally into the next to improve the overall readability of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. You rely on some repetitive phrasing, such as 'digital advancement' and 'important'. There are also minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'feasibility to the individual' and 'rooted to their culture'. While the meaning is generally clear, the use of less common lexical items is limited. To improve, focus on using more sophisticated synonyms and collocations that are appropriate for an academic context, rather than relying on basic descriptive terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('entertainment... is', 'it provide', 'theaters... has'), missing articles, and punctuation errors. For instance, 'As the technology changes' should be 'As technology changes', and 'i' should be capitalized. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. Increasing the accuracy of your complex sentences and paying closer attention to basic grammar rules will help improve your score in this criterion.
