Student answer (Band 6.5)
Several people argue that new age cinema and theaters are no longer important because people can watch all the entertainment they want in the internet. Others say that theaters and cinema are still of great value to the economy and culture. While some people believe that the theaters are no longer as important as they used to because of the evolution of technology and the internet, I am of the opinion that cinema stills holds a significant value because it is a way for families and friends to spend time together.
On the one hand, some people argue that theaters and cinema has lost its relevance because anyone can easily use their mobile devices to watch movies. The main reason for this is that it saves time and money. Nowadays, visiting the theaters for a 2 hour movie is too expensive and time consuming . For example, A businessman that my works 9am to 10pm everyday wouldn’t have enough time to visit the theaters, the little times they have after work hours is usually allocated to resting. This said individual can easily their phones to watch a movie on Netflix during break time at work.
On the other hand, cinema is still very popular nowadays because friends and families use it as an opportunity to leave their homes and bond with each other. Recently, there has been a rise in blockbuster movies that you can’t watch on your mobile devices. For instance, so many people have been trooping into the theaters to watch the newly released Spider-Man movie, a lot of parents take their kids to watch it and many friends also go to watch it together. This has caused a lot of buzz online that if you might feel left out if you haven’t seen it .
In my opinion, cinema hasn’t lose its value now and it wouldn’t in the nearest future. So many people still love to visit the theaters to watch movies with strangers, it is a way to leave your comfort zone and connect with other movie lovers. Nowadays, movie stars come to their theaters to promote their films and this is a great opportunity to meet your favorite celebrity.
In conclusion, theaters might not be so important anymore due to its rising price of tickets but there are still so many reasons people will leave their homes to watch movies in the theaters and one of them is that it serves as a bonding experience between family and friends.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all parts of the prompt by discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. Your position is consistent throughout the essay. The ideas are relevant, such as the convenience of streaming versus the social experience of cinemas. However, some arguments could be more deeply developed; for instance, the economic impact mentioned in the prompt is only briefly touched upon in the introduction and not fully explored in the body paragraphs. To reach a higher band, ensure that every aspect of the prompt (economic and cultural) is supported with specific, well-explained examples.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use transition signals like 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly repetitive. There are also minor issues with referencing, such as 'This said individual' in the second paragraph, which feels slightly unnatural. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and there is a clear progression of ideas throughout the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'evolution of technology', 'relevance', and 'bonding experience'. There are some instances of word-choice errors or awkward phrasing, such as 'new age cinema' instead of 'modern cinema' and 'hasn't lose its value' (should be 'hasn't lost'). While you attempt to use less common vocabulary, some of these attempts are slightly inaccurate. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, but it lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement ('theaters and cinema has lost') and tense errors ('hasn't lose'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some misplaced spaces before periods. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and verb forms would significantly improve your accuracy.
