Student answer (Band 5.5)

Some people argued that in the modernized world, entertainment centers like theaters and cinemas no longer serve the purpose as people can watch online what they want.Others people think that both cinemas and treaters are still crucial as they can stabilize both the economy and culture. This essay will discuss both the opinions before explaining why I believe that they are both important because it allows us to visualize the live performances of actors and enjoying the leisure time.

To begin with, theaters and cinemas should be banned because they are of no use as people use online platforms like YouTube, Netflix for watching short films and movies. Furthermore, it allows flexibility and comfort of watching movies at home. For instance, one can watch movie at any hour of time whenever he is free. Added to it, it allows comfort of watching movie alone in own room regardless of the cinemas and theaters where lots of people make noise.

On the other hand, cinemas and theaters should be continue to grow because they are beneficial in many ways. Firstly , it allows citizen to know about the national heroes through visual performances by actors. For example, a child may no know about Beowulf but by watching it lively ,give him description of his supernatural abilities. Similarly, it also sustain the economy of a country, as lots of citizens buy tickets for watching drama at theater so it boost the economy of a country. Moreover, both theaters and cinemas perform dramas and displays film that represents the cultural identity of a nation that allows people to learn about their culture, values and norms.

In conclusion, as watching entertainments programs online may give sense of comfort but watching at theaters and cinemas enable people to know their cultural identity and boosts the economy of a country. I completely believe to watch entertainment movies or programs at theaters and cinemas because it allows a person to see the live performances of actors and made them able to enjoy the film with large crew .It has greater fun than watching it alone at home.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The argument for banning theaters is extreme and lacks nuance, while the supporting points for their importance (economic and cultural) are better developed. The conclusion reiterates the position, but the reasoning remains slightly repetitive. To reach a higher band, you should focus on providing more balanced, sophisticated arguments rather than suggesting that cinemas 'should be banned,' which is a hyperbolic stance that limits the depth of your analysis.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To begin with,' 'Furthermore,' and 'On the other hand.' However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where the flow between sentences is slightly disjointed. For example, the transition between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother. Referencing is generally clear, but the paragraphing could be improved by ensuring each paragraph focuses on a single, well-developed main idea.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'cultural identity,' 'supernatural abilities,' and 'visual performances.' However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'visual performances by actors' or 'watching it lively.' There are also minor spelling and grammatical errors related to word forms, such as 'treaters' instead of 'theaters.' Expanding your range of collocations and refining your word choice would help improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation throughout the text. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'cinemas and theaters should be continue'), missing articles, and incorrect verb tenses. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing around commas and periods. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy would be highly beneficial.
