Student answer (Band 6.0)

There is an on going debate regarding, cinemas are the crucial part of the society. A group of individuals have argued that, theaters are not necessary, because of there are enormous online platforms to watch movies at home. However, others are counter claimed that, cinemas are essential part of the economy. In my opinion, I think that cinemas will not be disappear in the future.

Discussing the former view, there are plenty of benefits of the theater in the city. Firstly, the theater is one of the economic source of the city. In addition to this, people should watch movies in a big screen as well as a good sound effect. As a consequence, most of the viewers prefer to watch films in the cinema. To cite an example, it is fact that, many citizens are frustrated in their hustle and bustle life. Hence, those busy people should spend their leisure time to watch movies in the cinema with their loved once. As a result, individuals not only entertain themselves, but also create some memories with the family members. I concur with this view.

Conversely, proponents have their own opinion, there are many alternative options to watch movies online. Many individuals especially, youngsters, are more rely on the online applications to entertain themselves: such as, Netflix, Prime video and Hotstar. Furthermore, it is very convenient way to watch movies any time and sometimes due to certain situations people do not go to watch offline movies, at that time they can watch movies in their homes. For instance, as per the survey of the Times of India, in the covid pandemic, most of the Indian citizens are more dependent on the online tv shows rather than watch offline movies in the theatre. Still, I do not concur with this view.

In my opinion, cinemas play a crucial role in individual's life, because sometimes cinemas should not only, provide fun, but it also provide an unforgettable memories with family and friends. Apart from this, watching movies in the big screen has give an optimistic view to the people.

In conclusion, government should more focus to make theaters more modernistic. As a result, cinema is not only the encourage people, but it also increase the economic diversity.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument regarding the economic importance of cinemas is mentioned but not sufficiently explained or supported with robust evidence. The structure is logical, but the content lacks depth in the analysis of the cultural versus economic impact. While the position is clear throughout, the supporting arguments rely on generalisations rather than detailed exploration, which limits the score to a Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, each with a central topic. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Firstly', 'In addition to this', 'Conversely', and 'In conclusion', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'At that time they can watch movies in their homes' or the repetitive use of 'In addition to this'. Referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences occasionally feels disjointed due to grammatical errors that interrupt the logical progression of ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks sophistication. There are several instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'economic source of the city' instead of 'economic contributor', 'hustle and bustle life' used incorrectly, and 'modernistic' instead of 'modernised'. While the meaning is generally clear, the vocabulary is often repetitive and lacks the precision required for a higher band. The student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary (e.g., 'proponents', 'economic diversity'), but these are not always used in the most natural or accurate way.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that, while not impeding communication, are noticeable. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('cinemas will not be disappear', 'watching movies... has give'), incorrect preposition usage ('regarding, cinemas are'), and awkward phrasing ('most of the Indian citizens are more dependent on the online tv shows rather than watch offline movies'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma placement. These errors occur throughout the text, preventing a higher score.
