Student answer (Band 6.0)

In today's world, netizens believe that in this digital world, theatres and cinemas are not needed or doesn't play a crucial role, as there are different sources of entertainment while other believe that theatres and cinemas are irreplaceable. According to me both are different aspects and play a crucial role.

The reason behind moving towards other sources of entertainment at home could be because its cost-effective and a comfort zone as well as it is easy to change or close if you wish to see later on. For example, on Netflix if we see any movie, web series etc and did not like it we have an option to switch to something else or to stop that. On the other hand tickets for the theaters or cinemas are expensive and doesn't have any option if did not like it, and is not possible to go to cinema every single day.

Moreover, the theaters and cinemas provide with a pleasant experience and a lot to learn from historical plays these are irreplaceable and gaining that experience is also important as well as those theatres have high technological equipments, sound systems, 3X, 4X which gives a wonderful experience, which is not possible at home.

In conclusion, the sources of entertainment at home saves money and time whereas in theatres the ambience and the moment to see a movie, play on a big screen is also an irreplaceable experience for this generation, to learn about historic events through plays and dramas held in theatres. Additionally, it makes possible to go out of the comfort zone as well as outing is possible, otherwise, nowadays kids do not prefer going out always busy with there devices like mobile phone, Ipad, laptop, computer, Play station, xBox.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed both views and provided a clear personal opinion. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention economic and cultural importance, the arguments remain quite general. For instance, the mention of '3X, 4X' technology is vague and does not clearly explain the economic or cultural impact. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your points with more specific examples or deeper analysis. The introduction is a bit repetitive, and your position could be stated more formally to better suit an academic essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices like 'Moreover' and 'In conclusion' to link your thoughts. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing and repetitive sentence structures. Some transitions feel mechanical, and the referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the final paragraph where the list of devices feels like a sudden shift in focus. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your meaning, but it lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. Phrases like 'comfort zone' and 'netizens' are used, but there are also instances of imprecise word choice, such as 'technological equipments' (equipment is uncountable) and 'the moment to see a movie'. You rely on fairly basic vocabulary to describe complex concepts. To improve, focus on using more academic collocations and precise terminology related to the entertainment industry.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('theatres and cinemas... doesn't play', 'tickets... doesn't have'), incorrect use of articles, and punctuation errors. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. To improve, pay closer attention to pluralisation, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of articles in academic writing.
