Student answer (Band 6.0)

In the present age, whether your going to watch a movie at a cinemas or at the comfort of your home has sparked a debate. As technology advances some people argue that cinemas are a thing of the past and people should watch movies an shows online, on the other hand other believe that cinemas have an impact on the culture and economy. This essay will discuss both arguments with relevant details. Personally, i side the latter view.

Convincing argument can be made that cinemas hold a importance in the society socially and for a business point of view. Some people prefer investing there money into watching a movie at a cinema because of the larger picture, the theatrics of the show and because of the audience, although it is released on online streaming services. The movie theatre holds a social value as people with the same interest are gathering for a activity which later they can have conversations over this can be a opportunity for them to make lifelong friendships. For example, if you want to meet people them going for a film embeds into memory and will create connections with them. Popular films are festivals for fanatics despite being directed and filmed in the last decade, yet it creates a buzz in the society which generates revenue for the theatres.

Admittedly, people still prefer watching a film at home where they feel comfortable because going at a theatre is a hassle, chaotic and unsafe for them. Entertainment online might be expensive for some individuals but if adding all the aspects of the theatre such as transportation, time and money over the time it is more expensive to experience the cinematics.

In summary, i would say that enjoying entertainment is simple and chaos free online but cinemas hold the same importance.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal position. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the social benefits of cinemas are touched upon, the economic argument mentioned in the prompt is only briefly alluded to as 'generating revenue' without specific explanation or examples. The counter-argument regarding home viewing is also underdeveloped, focusing primarily on the 'hassle' of cinemas rather than the broader technological or convenience-based shift. To reach a higher band, you should provide more detailed, specific examples to support your claims, such as the impact of streaming platforms on film production or the specific economic role cinemas play in local communities.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear introduction and conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward. For instance, the transition 'on the other hand other believe' lacks necessary punctuation and grammatical structure. Additionally, the flow between sentences within paragraphs could be smoother; some ideas feel like a list of points rather than a cohesive argument. The use of referencing is generally clear, but the overall progression of ideas would benefit from more sophisticated linking words to connect the arguments more fluidly.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. There are several instances of imprecise word choice, such as 'convincing argument can be made that cinemas hold a importance' (should be 'hold importance' or 'are of importance') and 'festivals for fanatics'. The phrase 'investing there money' contains a common homophone error ('there' instead of 'their'). While the meaning is clear, the range of vocabulary is somewhat limited and relies on basic descriptors. To improve, focus on using more academic collocations and precise terminology related to the entertainment industry.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text that occasionally distract the reader. Common issues include subject-verb agreement and article usage, such as 'whether your going' (should be 'you're'), 'a cinemas' (should be 'a cinema'), and 'a activity' (should be 'an activity'). Sentence structures are mostly simple or compound, with limited use of complex structures. While the errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent enough to prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for basic errors like 'i' (should be 'I') and ensuring correct verb forms will significantly improve your score.
