Student answer (Band 5.0)

Some people say that in the digital age theatre and cinema are no longer important as people can watch all the entertainment. They want online other argues that theatre and cinemas are still important both economically. And culturally I am totally agree with both of.

In my opinion that is totally fine because now younger generation is too smart before 20s people often to use cinema and theatre very commonly because there are not any online source of entertainment. That’s why our grandparents are also now like going to theatre but the current younger generation is love to watch movies in home and sometimes spend their weekends and for outdoor activities they go cinemas for better experience. There are a lot of movies online for their experience like I give you example a movie released it’s Gurinder it’s Indian movie and it’s available online but the experience of watching this movie in cinema is incredible and now younger generation have different OTT platforms like where they can watch different type of seasons and movies that cannot be released in cinema or theatre that’s why I totally agree with the younger generation.

Overall my opinion on this is it’s totally on someone choice if a person like to watch a movie in cinema definitely he often go to cinema every weekend and no younger generation is I think I am also young and I prefer watching movies online going to cinema I rarely go to cinema for watching movies when someone with me like some special one like my girlfriend and my brothers I will go to cinema for watch movies but if we talk about specific about theatre theatre is old now like in my country Pakistan theatre is only for 18+ it. Show us vulgar and romantic type dramas that’s why younger generation doesn’t want to visit it so it’s totally depends but now the modern era people will prefer watching movies online on different OTT platforms because you have a lot of varieties in movies but in cinema they only watch movies when their favourite TV actor release like Salman Khan Shahrukh Khan.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument, but the development is inconsistent. While you provide personal anecdotes, the task requires a more formal discussion of the economic and cultural importance of theatres and cinemas. Your argument is somewhat confused; you state you agree with both sides, but then focus heavily on personal preference and the younger generation's habits. The discussion regarding the economic impact is almost entirely absent, and the cultural aspect is limited to a subjective and narrow view of theatre in your home country. To improve, ensure you address the prompt's specific requirements—economic and cultural significance—with more balanced, objective reasoning rather than relying solely on personal habits.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the internal structure is weak. There is a lack of logical progression between ideas, and the use of cohesive devices is very limited. Many sentences are linked with simple conjunctions or are run-on sentences, such as '...and sometimes spend their weekends and for outdoor activities they go cinemas for better experience.' Referencing is often unclear, and the transition between the introduction, body, and conclusion is abrupt. To improve, use linking words like 'furthermore,' 'consequently,' or 'in contrast' to guide the reader through your arguments and ensure each paragraph has a clear topic sentence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, often relying on informal phrasing that is not suitable for an academic essay. For example, 'totally fine,' 'too smart,' and 'some special one' are conversational rather than academic. There are also issues with word choice, such as 'seasons' instead of 'series' and 'release' instead of 'are released.' While you attempt to use terms like 'OTT platforms,' the overall range is limited, and the errors in collocation and word form occasionally make the meaning difficult to follow. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise, academic terminology would significantly improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that impede communication. There are significant issues with sentence structure, including fragments and run-on sentences (e.g., 'I am totally agree with both of'). Subject-verb agreement is inconsistent, and there is a lack of complex sentence structures. Punctuation is also problematic, with many sentences lacking proper capitalization or ending in mid-thought. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar—such as articles, verb tenses, and prepositions—prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focus on mastering simple sentence construction before attempting more complex structures.
