Student answer (Band 6.0)

Theatres and cinemas has been regarded as the traditional mean of entertainment in our society. With technological development and digital advancement, considerable debates has emerged wether we should continue theaters and cinemas as our cultural and economical aspect or we should overlook these sources of entertainment as every person has personal digital media. However, different perspectives exist on this matter, I firmly believe that adopting a balanced and sustainable approach is essential for achieveing the maximum benefits for community and well-being.

On the one hand, supporters of ignoring the theaters and cinemas argue that investing in these types of entertainment is only the burden on our society as each person has social media from where he can easily entertain at any time without any cost. Moreover, we have to book tickets for shows, dramas and movies in advanced. And we have to travel to the cinemas for entertainment.

On the other hand, advocates for survival of the cinemas and theatres contend that they are still important both economically and culturally. As in theatres, we not only enjoy the programs but also socially interact with a lot of people. These also revive traditions of our forefathers when social media was not commonly available. These cinemas also attract a lot of tourists. Therefore, these cinemas and theaters should improve their fame by positive awareness campaigning through social media and providing online tickets facility.

In conclusion, although both views have considerable merits, I remain convined that existance of theatres and cinamas represent the most practical solution for soltitude and busy life through responsible planning for our society.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding the 'burden' of cinemas is underdeveloped, and the suggestion to use social media for marketing is a bit tangential to the core debate about cultural and economic importance. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific examples or deeper analysis of how these venues contribute to the economy (e.g., job creation) or culture (e.g., community identity) rather than focusing on logistical aspects like ticket booking.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' to signal the structure. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the transition between the benefits of social interaction and the suggestion for online ticket facilities is abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'technological development', 'advancement', and 'sustainable approach'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'traditional mean' (should be 'means'), 'economical aspect' (should be 'economic'), and 'improve their fame' (should be 'increase their popularity'). Additionally, there are spelling errors like 'wether', 'convined', 'existance', 'cinamas', and 'soltitude'. While these do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they limit the score as they indicate a lack of precision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the accuracy of the writing. Subject-verb agreement is a recurring issue, such as 'Theatres and cinemas has been' (should be 'have been') and 'debates has emerged' (should be 'have emerged'). There are also errors with articles and prepositions, such as 'is only the burden' (should be 'is only a burden') and 'in advanced' (should be 'in advance'). While you attempt complex sentences, the frequency of these errors means that the control of grammar is not consistent enough for a higher band.
