Student answer (Band 5.5)

In digital age, theatres and cinemas are becoming widely debated issue. Some people believe that they are still important both economically and culturally, whlile others argue that all the entartainment can be watched online. In my opinion, theaters and cinemas are very important because of latest technology and effects.

To begin with, entertainment industry is bomming very rapidly with the latest technology such as 4D. In this technology there is a motion mechanism fitted in the chair which leds it to move and add physical effect. As increase in technology leads to rise in price of movie ticket, which contributes economically to this industry. For example, R1 movie was shooted and produced for 4D effects only which makes people aware of latest technology. Due to this entertainment industry is growing rapidly and had econimical as well as cultural importance.

On the other hand, there is huge demand for internet in current decade. This leds to increase in online entertainment by developing new platforms like Netflix, Hotstar and Prime Videos. This platforms are able to stream the latest movies as soon as it is released. For instance, a persoan need to take subscribtion for this platform and can watch the same movie at home online instead of going to cinema hall. Hence due to increase in internet and availability of online platforms some people believe that theaters are becoming less important.

In conclusion, as there is advancement in cinema halls and theathers with new 4D technology it is becoming more important economically and culturally. Nevertheless online entertainment is also option available for the user in todays era.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention 4D technology as a reason for the importance of cinemas, the explanation of their 'economic and cultural' importance is a bit superficial. The second body paragraph regarding online platforms is relevant, but the connection back to the prompt's core question—whether they are 'no longer important'—could be more robustly argued. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is fully extended with more detailed reasoning or specific, well-explained examples rather than just mentioning them.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' to signal the structure. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of referencing is occasionally imprecise (e.g., 'This platforms' should be 'These platforms'). The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the transition between the economic argument and the cultural argument in the first body paragraph is slightly abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words would help the essay read more naturally.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'motion mechanism', 'subscribtion', and 'platforms'. However, there are several spelling errors ('whlile', 'entartainment', 'bomming', 'econimical', 'persoan', 'theathers') and some awkward word choices ('shooted' instead of 'shot'). These errors are noticeable and detract from the overall quality of the writing. To improve, focus on proofreading for common spelling mistakes and expanding your range of collocations related to the topic of media and technology.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('This leds to', 'This platforms are'), missing articles ('In digital age'), and incorrect verb forms ('movie was shooted'). These errors occur frequently enough to be noticeable, though they do not completely impede communication. To move to a higher band, you should focus on mastering basic sentence construction, particularly subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles, while continuing to experiment with more complex sentence forms.
