Student answer (Band 5.5)

Technology is deeply embedded in our society these days and every single person is utilising it for their own benefits. To unwind thoughts and work pressure people usually distract themselves by watching theatre or a movie which eventually makes them feel relaxed.

So I is often argued that theatre and cinemas are important and some think they are of no use in today's world.

I personally feel that theatres and cinemas are not that important in today's world.

The primary reason why theatres and cinemas are used are to watch a movie or a play. This is solely for entertainment purposes. People book their tickets, go to the place at a specific time, watch the movie or play and come back home.

I feel this to be a little restricting and limited.

It is definitely true that people enjoy alot and have a good time with family, friends or themselves but I feel that this is not convenient and efficient at all.

On the second have if we look according to the digital world, we will see that if we watch a movie or series online we can adjust the timing according to our needs.

Whether it's in the morning or late at night we have access to our phones and Internet 24/7.

Secondly we don't have to travel to see different movies whether it is produced by our local cinemas or a Hollywood bollywood movie. It is present at one click.

We can even pause it according our ease. And resume when we are free again, however this is not the same for theatres ans cinemas.

Based on my liking and convenience I would simply say that cinemas and theatres are no longer useful in this digital era as It gives us freedom and vast variety of things for entertainment without much effort.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you discuss the convenience of digital platforms, the prompt also asks you to consider the economic and cultural importance of theatres and cinemas. By focusing almost exclusively on personal convenience, you have under-developed the 'economic and cultural' aspect of the task. To reach a higher band, you should provide more balanced arguments that address all parts of the prompt, such as the role of cinemas in local economies or the unique cultural experience of shared viewing, rather than focusing solely on the ease of watching movies at home.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'The primary reason', 'On the second hand' (which should be 'On the other hand'), and 'Secondly'. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly inaccurate. The transition between paragraphs is functional but could be smoother. The referencing is generally clear, though the overall structure is quite simple. To improve, try to use a wider range of linking words and phrases to connect your ideas more fluidly and ensure that your paragraphing is used to support a more sophisticated argument structure.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for a higher band. You use basic terms like 'good time', 'not that important', and 'things for entertainment'. While these are understandable, they do not demonstrate the ability to use less common or more sophisticated lexical items. There are also some minor errors in word choice, such as 'On the second have' instead of 'On the other hand'. To improve, focus on incorporating more academic collocations and topic-specific vocabulary related to the entertainment industry, such as 'cinematic experience', 'cultural heritage', or 'technological advancement'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'So I is often argued' (subject-verb agreement), 'enjoy alot' (spelling), 'Hollywood bollywood movie' (capitalisation and lack of conjunction), and 'theatres ans cinemas' (typo). While these errors do not generally impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the overall flow. To improve, you should focus on proofreading for basic errors and attempt to use a wider variety of complex grammatical structures, such as conditional sentences or passive voice, while ensuring they are used accurately.
