Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both views and providing an opinion. However, the development of ideas is limited and often repetitive. For instance, the argument regarding the convenience of mobile phones is repeated almost verbatim in the opinion section, which does not add new depth. The position is stated but lacks clear, logical support. The essay struggles to maintain a formal academic tone, and the ideas are often under-developed, relying on vague statements like 'its best option' or 'amazing' without specific, relevant examples to illustrate the economic or cultural points effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is frequently disrupted by unclear referencing and awkward transitions. Phrases like 'To commence with' and 'On the other hand' are used, but the internal flow of sentences is often disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes inaccurate, such as the repetitive use of 'so' and 'because' to link clauses. Referencing is often confusing, making it difficult for the reader to follow the argument's development. The conclusion is also weak, essentially restating the introduction without synthesizing the points discussed.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, which restricts the ability to convey complex ideas. There is a reliance on basic words like 'good', 'best', and 'important'. The student attempts to use some topic-related vocabulary such as 'economically' and 'culturally', but these are often used in grammatically incorrect collocations. There are frequent errors in word choice, such as 'some masses' and 'vast time', which occasionally impede the reader's understanding. The range is insufficient to demonstrate the flexibility required for higher band scores.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that affect the clarity of the message. There are significant issues with sentence structure, including run-on sentences and fragments. Subject-verb agreement is inconsistent, for example, 'new generation used technology' instead of 'uses'. Punctuation is also problematic, with erratic capitalization and missing commas. The range of structures is limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences with basic conjunctions. Complex structures are attempted but are almost always faulty, leading to a lack of control over grammar that frequently hinders communication.
