Student answer (Band 5.5)

Theaters and cinemas play a vital role for the entertainment in the life of a person. Some people think that with the increase in digitalization, the theaters and cinemas are becoming less important as everything is available to us in just a single click. While others think that they are important for the growth of economy and to preserve the culture. Both the viewpoints will be discussed in the forthcoming paragraphs.

To begin with, nowadays the theatres and cinemas are losing their importance because of a plethora of reasons. Firstly, smart phones are becoming common in all age groups. Multiple applications are available in the smart phones gives access to watch any kind of movies and c interesting content in any language that too without any charges. For instance, Jio Hotstar, Netflix and other OTT platforms which enables people to watch new movies. Moreover, it is easily accessible anywhere to anyone. People can watch movies sitting at their home and even while doing their household chores and to spend their break time in offices and it also save their travelling time.

In contrast, the theatres and cinemas are still important for the economic and cultural values. Primarily, when a person visit cinema with his family it enables to spend some quality time which is not possible due to their hectic work schedule. Furthermore, it also helps to strengthen the bond with their kith and kins and even relaxed their stressed mind. The theaters and cinemas are also important economically as it provide employment to the number of actors, directors and other individuals. I, helps in providing social experiences which is not possible while sitting at the home.

To conclude, in my opinion, digitalization has declined the importance of theatres and cinemas. It is important as they contribute to the economic growth, preserve cultural values and provide valuable social experiences.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing an opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention economic and cultural values, the explanation remains superficial. For instance, you state that cinemas provide employment, but you do not elaborate on the broader economic impact. Furthermore, your conclusion is slightly contradictory; you state that digitalization has declined the importance of theaters, but then immediately acknowledge their ongoing value without clearly synthesizing your own stance. To improve, ensure each body paragraph provides a deeper analysis rather than just listing points.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'In contrast', and 'Furthermore'. However, some transitions feel mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is slightly disrupted by awkward phrasing, such as 'I, helps in providing social experiences'. The use of referencing is generally clear, but the connection between sentences could be smoother to achieve a higher level of cohesion. Overall, the structure is functional and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'digitalization', 'plethora', and 'hectic work schedule'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'entertainment in the life of a person' (which is slightly unnatural) and 'relaxed their stressed mind' (should be 'relax'). You also repeat 'important' frequently. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and varying your vocabulary to avoid repetition, especially when discussing abstract concepts like cultural value.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('Multiple applications... gives access', 'it provide employment') and awkward phrasing ('it enables to spend some quality time'). Punctuation is generally correct, but some sentences are slightly clunky. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and ensure that complex sentences are constructed with greater precision. The current level of error does not impede communication, but it does prevent the essay from reaching a higher band.
