Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both views and provides a personal opinion, meeting the basic requirements of the prompt. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For example, the argument regarding the economic and cultural importance of theaters is repetitive and lacks specific, well-explained examples. The personal opinion is stated clearly but is not fully integrated into the essay's structure, appearing somewhat disconnected in the final paragraphs. To improve, you should aim to provide more depth in your reasoning and ensure that your personal stance is consistently supported throughout the body paragraphs rather than just stated at the end.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. Phrases like 'One the one hand' and 'While on the other hand' are used, but the internal flow within paragraphs is frequently interrupted by awkward phrasing and punctuation errors. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the transition between ideas feels abrupt. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words more naturally and ensure that each sentence logically follows the previous one to create a smoother progression of ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher score. There is a reliance on simple, repetitive language such as 'important', 'good', and 'easy'. Some word choices are unnatural, such as 'cost-less websites' and 'cultural individuals'. Additionally, there are several instances of incorrect word forms and collocations. To improve, you should work on expanding your range of vocabulary to include more academic and topic-specific terms, and pay closer attention to how words are combined in English to ensure they sound natural and precise.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Common issues include incorrect verb tenses, missing articles, and faulty punctuation, such as the misuse of commas and capitalization (e.g., 'It is often argued by some people that cinemas and theatres are no longer important in this digital era, Meanwhile...'). These errors are noticeable and occasionally make the text difficult to follow. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and consistent punctuation. Proofreading your work for these fundamental errors before finishing will significantly enhance the clarity of your writing.
