Student answer (Band 6.0)
Many individuals seem to hold the opinion that special places for public entertainment since everything that has ever been made is available on the internet while others these venues are important. This essay will discuss both perspectives before I give my own opinion on why these traditional venues are important.
Many people believe that theatre and cinemas are not of much importance because online entertainment is significantly more convenient. Nowadays, much of films, documentaries ever made can be accessed on the internet with just the click of a button. Furthermore, streaming sites are much cheaper than purchasing tickets making them an attractive options for individuals. Platforms like Netflix have made a plethora of entertainment materials available for a relatively lower amount of money.
Neverthemore, I believe that theatres and cinemas continue to play an important role in modern society. First of all they provide a unique social and cultural experience that can't be replicated at home. Having numerous people watch a film creates excitement and a sense of enjoyment that can't be replicated at home. Secondly, these venues create employment opportunities for locals and also contribute to local economies. It also helps attract customers to nearby cafes, restaurants and shops. Also major film and theater performances promote culture and tourism helping boost local economy. Therefore, their importance goes beyond just showing films
In conclusion, while online platforms have their own significance I believe theatres and cinemas have a significant impact both economically and culturally as they offer irreplaceable cultural experiences as well as bossy local economy.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The essay addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both perspectives and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, though some points, such as the economic impact, could be developed with more specific examples rather than just listing benefits like 'nearby cafes'. The position is consistent throughout the response. To reach a higher band, ensure that the arguments are fully extended with more depth, as the current development is somewhat brief and relies on general statements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs. There is a progression of ideas from the introduction to the body paragraphs and the conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Furthermore', 'Neverthemore' (which is a spelling error), and 'First of all'. However, the transition between ideas is sometimes mechanical. The referencing is generally clear, but the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that the relationship between sentences is more fluid.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'plethora' and 'replicated'. However, there are some inaccuracies and awkward phrasing, such as 'bossy local economy' in the conclusion, which is a misuse of the word 'bossy'. Additionally, the repetition of 'can't be replicated at home' within the same paragraph reduces the impact of the argument. A more precise range of vocabulary would enhance the quality of the writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as the missing verb in the opening sentence ('special places... since everything...'), the incorrect use of 'much of films' instead of 'many films', and the non-existent word 'Neverthemore'. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. The punctuation is generally acceptable, but the sentence structure could be more varied to demonstrate better control over complex forms.
