Student answer (Band 6.0)

Watching movie online has become an increasingly common nowadays as several online platforms provide movies at affordable cost. It is widely believe that with the advancement in technology, theatres and cinema are loosing their importance due to online platforms which provide all the entertainment people want, while others argue that theatres and cinemas still important for both economically and culturally. This essay will examine both perspectives before explaining why I believe theatres and cinemas are still important.

On the one hand, theatres and cinemas are replaced with online platforms due to advancement in technology which has changed the way people to prefer to entertain themselves as online platforms provide movies at convenient prices. In addition, individuals may watch all the kind of entertainment at home without wasting a high amount of money buying tickets. As a result, people not only save money, but also save energy by watching all stuff at home. For instance, people with good internet connection prefer to be entertained at home watching on online platforms. Therefore, individuals may prefer this approach to save time and money.

On the other hand, theatres and cinemas provide entertainment with higher quality and better sound system which help individuals to experience better picture and on large screen. Moreover, theatres and cinemas also contribute government to create source of revenue which government may spend to improve living standard of citizens. To exemplify, Theatres and cinemas help people to experience movies on large screen and better sound quality. Consequently, citizens understand the culture of theatres and cinemas. hence, individuals might experience movies with better understanding.

In my view, theatres and cinemas are still an essential part of human being because it create revenue and help people being part of their culture.

In conclusion, although online platforms provide entertainment at affordable cost and save energy, I believe theatres and cinemas are still play an essential role in people's life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the economic argument regarding government revenue is mentioned but not fully explained or supported with specific examples. The conclusion is brief and repeats points already made rather than synthesizing them. To reach a higher band, you should aim to expand on your arguments with more detailed reasoning and specific, real-world examples. The position is clear, but the supporting arguments lack the depth required for a higher score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand,' 'On the other hand,' and 'In conclusion' to signal the structure. However, some transitions are mechanical, and the flow between sentences is occasionally repetitive. For example, the use of 'therefore' and 'consequently' is sometimes forced. Referencing is generally clear, but the essay would benefit from a wider variety of linking words and more sophisticated paragraph transitions to improve the overall flow and cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'online platforms,' 'revenue,' and 'entertainment.' However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of awkward phrasing or minor errors, such as 'loosing' instead of 'losing' and 'all the kind of entertainment.' There is also a tendency to repeat simple words like 'people' and 'entertainment' rather than using synonyms or more precise academic vocabulary. Expanding your range of collocations and avoiding repetitive word choices would significantly improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'Watching movie online' (missing article), 'It is widely believe' (incorrect verb form), and 'contribute government to create' (preposition error). Additionally, there are issues with subject-verb agreement and article usage throughout the text. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall accuracy. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and article usage.
