Student answer (Band 6.0)
Some people believe that in this technically developed century, cinemas and theatres are no longer a necessity, the reason for this is that everything is available online to entertain themselves. Another opinion is that cinemas and theatres are an essential part of our society as it is economically and culturally beneficial. My perspective is that cinemas and theatres bring both economical and cultural advantageous to our county, so it should be promoted.
Some individuals think that there is no need of cinemas and theatres because technology has progressed so much that you can watch everything online without any difficulties and cinemas are just a waste of money. The main reason for this is that it is budget friendly to watch films and series at home with yours friends and family. Everything is almost free or you just need a small amount of money to purchase a subscription to get unlimited access to entertainment shows. For instance, in this present world, apps like Netflix and Amazon prime are highly popular because they cost less than visiting a cinema.
On the other hand, some people believe that the availability of theatres and cinemas provides great opportunity to get to know other cultures, while bringing finances to our country. It provides a great opportunity to socialise more often, meeting new people and expanding their social circle. Moreover, it gives financial stability to people working in entertainment industry because when people visit these places, they buy tickets, order snacks and meals as a result money flows and provide jobs to people.
In conclusion, although getting entertainment at home is more budget friendly as everything is accessible online, going to cinemas and theatres has many social, cultural and financial advantages. I also agree with the latter view, as a significant number of people get benefits when cinemas and theatres run smoothly.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the economic impact of cinemas and the convenience of streaming services. However, the development is somewhat limited; for instance, the argument regarding cultural benefits is mentioned but not deeply explored. The position is consistent throughout, but the supporting points could be more thoroughly extended to reach a higher band. Overall, the response is well-structured and directly answers the prompt requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central topic, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. Cohesive devices such as 'On the other hand', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion' are used effectively to link ideas. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and there is occasional repetition in the phrasing of ideas. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and the overall structure supports the reader's understanding of the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task. You use some topic-specific terms like 'subscription', 'financial stability', and 'entertainment industry'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'economical advantageous' (should be 'economic advantages') and 'technically developed century' (which sounds unnatural). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band score. Expanding your range of collocations and idiomatic expressions would improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'the reason for this is that everything is available... to entertain themselves' (a comma splice) and 'money flows and provide jobs' (subject-verb agreement error). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some run-on sentences. To improve, focus on ensuring subject-verb agreement and refining the use of complex sentence structures to reduce the frequency of minor errors.
