Student answer (Band 6.0)

No one can deny that some people believe that theaters and cinemaa are no longer important. While other prefer to think that these places still have significant economic and cultural value. It is important to admit that both views have their own benefits and detriments.

On the one hand, online entertainment has made cinemaa and theaters less necessary for many people. Nowdays, streaming platforms aloow people to watch a wide range of films and programmes form the comfort of their homes. This is usually cheaper and more convenient than travelling to a cinema. Moreover, many people are not free because cause of work, jobs and study. Many people believe more time spend with family and relatives with comfort zone. People can watch enetrtainment whenever they want and can pause or replay it.

On the other hand, theatres and cinemas continue to play an important role in society. Culturally, theaters and cinemas provides a shared experience that cannot be completely replaced by watching something alone at home. In addition, theatres help preserve traditional forms of art and encourage people to appreciate local culture.

In conclusion, digital enetrtainment has made watching films and shows easier and more affordable, but theatres and cinemas remain important because they create jobs, support local economies and provide unique cultural experience. I believe both online entertyainment and traditional venues can successfully exist together.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion in the conclusion. The ideas are relevant and logically grouped. However, the development of some points is slightly superficial. For instance, the argument regarding the economic impact of cinemas is mentioned but could be further extended with more specific examples or deeper analysis to reach a higher band. The position is consistent throughout, and the essay structure is appropriate for the task requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the two opposing views. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'Moreover', and 'In addition' are used to guide the reader through the argument. However, there are some instances where the flow is slightly mechanical, and the referencing could be more precise. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to express ideas clearly. There are some attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'streaming platforms' and 'economic perspective'. However, there are several spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'cinemaa', 'Nowdays', 'aloow', 'reasturents', and 'entertyainment'. These errors are frequent enough to be noticeable but do not impede communication. To improve, the student should focus on proofreading to eliminate these basic spelling mistakes and aim for more sophisticated collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical inaccuracies, such as 'While other prefer to think' (should be 'others'), 'cause of work, jobs and study' (awkward phrasing), and 'theaters and cinemas provides' (subject-verb agreement error). These errors occur frequently but do not cause significant difficulty for the reader. To reach a higher band, the student should work on subject-verb agreement and ensure more consistent control over complex sentence structures.
