Student answer (Band 5.5)

Many people say that theatres and cinemas are not important in this digital age because individuals can access all types of entertainment online. Other people give contradicting statements and say that they are still important with regard to traditions and finances. People consider theatres and cinemas of no importance because of digital innoviation and less cost. while others argue as theatres and cinemas preserve the traditions of a country and area. In this essays I will discuss both views and before giving my opinion and will draw a conclusion.

On one hand, many people think that nowadays cinemas and theatres have no importance as the world is growing in the field of technology and innovation everybody has access to a digital products that can be a smartphone or a laptop. Hence, people can see any sort of entertainment they want from the ease of their home as they no longer need to travel long distances to buy expensive tickets.

On the other hand, people argue that cinemas and theatres are still of great importance because they represent our traditions and are also economic. As every country and area has specific tradition and cinemas play important role in preserving the culture of a country. In addition, they also have role in gathering people from various locations and hence increases the interaction of people with others.

In my opinion, theatres and cinemas can never be removed because they not only provide entertainment but they also play beneficial role in providing job opportunities to people in various fields associated with cinemas and theatres.

In conclusion, as it is the era of digital innovation individual can reach out to any type of content according to their taste but cinemas and theatres also of significant importance and they must be promoted as they represent our traditions.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention that cinemas preserve traditions and provide jobs, these points are not fully extended with specific examples or deeper analysis. For instance, you could have discussed how the 'communal experience' of a cinema differs from watching content alone at home. The introduction is slightly repetitive, and the conclusion simply restates the prompt rather than synthesising the arguments presented. To reach a higher band, ensure each body paragraph provides a concrete example or a more detailed explanation of the 'why' behind your arguments.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'On one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' to signal shifts in the argument. However, the flow within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, and the use of linking words could be more varied. Some sentences feel disconnected, such as the transition between the digital innovation point and the cost argument in the second paragraph. Improving the use of referencing (e.g., using pronouns like 'these' or 'such') would help the text feel more cohesive and less like a list of separate points.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and range required for a higher band. You rely on repetitive phrasing, such as 'cinemas and theatres' and 'important', which appears multiple times. There are also some minor errors in word choice, such as 'digital innoviation' (spelling) and 'economic' (used as an adjective where a noun like 'economic benefits' was intended). To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated synonyms and collocations related to the topic of media, technology, and cultural heritage.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as missing articles ('in this essays', 'play important role'), subject-verb agreement issues ('cinemas also of significant importance'), and awkward phrasing ('everybody has access to a digital products'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the score. To progress, focus on consistent article usage and ensuring that your complex sentences are punctuated correctly and maintain grammatical consistency throughout.
