Student answer (Band 5.5)
In this age of digital advancement the theatres and cinemas have seen new platforms which have proved to be very interesting and it has successfully attracted new audiences and horizons.
There are people who believe that theatres and cinemas are waste of time and no longer can serve their entertainment needs because they can have it all sitting in their living room if they want. At the same time, cinemas have many supporters who think theatres and cinemas are not only a massive source of entertainment but also it helps the audiences culturally and economically.
Since the rise of Netflix, Amazon Prime, Apple TV and zillion other torrent sites people have made a habit of enjoying cinema at home whenever they need it and that too at a very low price compared to the cinema theatre goers. This may seem like a more comfortable source of enjoying content to many people but it has flaws. These online platforms are addictive. People or more precisely to say, young people often are found to be wasting their time watching movies and shows all the time because they have no boundaries. They enjoy foreign movies which might not be similar to their culture and may mix attitudes with the other one. But in cinemas there's a time limit and a live socializing factor that allows the audiences encounter the cinematic experience. This can eventually help their economy to grow and the cultural factor is hard to ignore as well.
I personally a theatre and cinema fan and I go to cinemas every month if I there is a movie of my taste. But it doesn't mean I don't watch movies on online platforms. I enjoy both by taking the positive sides from each of them and in my opinion, everyone needs to do the same.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the economic and cultural importance of cinemas is mentioned, the explanation remains superficial. For instance, the claim that cinemas help the economy is stated but not supported with specific reasoning or examples. Similarly, the argument regarding the 'socializing factor' is a good point but lacks depth. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your points with more detailed explanations or concrete examples, ensuring that the discussion of both views is balanced and thoroughly explored.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'At the same time' and 'But in cinemas', to link your thoughts. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly repetitive. Additionally, some transitions between sentences feel abrupt, such as the shift from discussing online platforms to the 'socializing factor' of cinemas. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the flow of your writing and help you achieve a higher band score.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'digital advancement', 'cinematic experience', and 'platforms'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'zillion other torrent sites' (which is too informal) and 'mix attitudes with the other one'. The vocabulary is generally functional but lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. To improve, focus on using more academic collocations and avoiding informal or hyperbolic language. Expanding your range to include more topic-specific vocabulary related to media and economics would also be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are several grammatical errors that occasionally affect clarity, such as 'I personally a theatre and cinema fan' (missing verb) and 'if I there is a movie' (extra pronoun). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but some sentences are slightly awkward in their construction. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and ensuring that your complex sentences are grammatically sound. Increasing the frequency of error-free sentences will help you move into the higher band range.
