Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this digital era, theatres and cinemas have lost some of their watchers or customers to online (OTT) platforms. According to my point of view, watching movies in theatres and cinemas is still relevant and quite engaging even in this age.

I get that online platforms provide each and every TV show and movie to their subscribers just after they are released in cinemas, notwithstanding, watching a movie in cinema provides a unique sort of experience which might have been lost among the youth of current generation. Few of the advantages of watching shows online are : it is easily accessible, consequently people don't have to go anywhere; they can watch it any where and at whatever time they want to, moreover, no extra expenditure required, as it is one time payment and you can enjoy the provided shows till the corresponding plan's end date.

Conversely, watching movies in theatres benefits the economy, as it give rises to employment and even the cinema owners earn money by which they provide the tapes of new films on time to their audience. These days, the cost of a online platform subscription is quite high, which might not be economically feasible for some group of people, accordingly this option is economical in nature. Furthermore, this option is culturally beneficial, because it has been our habit to watch a movie in a premise which gives a unique experience like 4D or 3D movies which is not possible in online platforms and hence some people still visit theatre halls to sense this kind of experience.

I prefer watching movies in theatres despite of me having an online platform subscription because watching movie with friends and family while eating popcorn on recliners draws an impact towards your experience. I recently went to theatre with my family to watch a movie, even though the movie doesn't change but how and with whom you watch changes the whole idea of entertainment. As, it is more fun when you are able to share that feeling with someone. On the contrary, I've watched shows online alone in my room, though it provides entertainment, it just feels that hollowness inside.

Upon experiencing both the perspectives, I support the idea of watching movies in theatre and cinemas just like old times for the sense of nostalgia!

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the convenience of online platforms versus the economic and cultural value of cinemas. However, some arguments are slightly under-developed; for instance, the claim that cinemas are 'economically feasible' compared to subscriptions is not fully supported by evidence. The position is consistent throughout, and the conclusion effectively summarizes the writer's stance. To reach a higher band, the student should provide more specific examples or deeper analysis of the economic impact mentioned.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'conversely', 'furthermore', and 'on the contrary', though some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive. The referencing is generally clear, although the flow between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow, meeting the requirements for a Band 6.5 or 7.0 level of organization.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'economically feasible', 'notwithstanding', and 'hollowness'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'give rises to employment' (should be 'gives rise to') and 'draws an impact towards your experience' (should be 'has an impact on'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey meaning, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'the cost of a online platform' (should be 'an'), 'some group of people' (should be 'some groups'), and 'despite of me having' (should be 'despite having'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some run-on sentences and minor errors in article usage. The errors do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score.
