Student answer (Band 5.5)

In a digital age, people have access to a wide range of entertainment through the internet. As a result, some argue that theatres and cinemas are becoming unnecessary, while other believe that they continue have to economic and cinemas important. This essay will discuss both views before explaining why i believe cinemas and theatres still valuable.

On the one hand, there are several reason why people think theatres and cinemas are essential. The main reason is convenience of online entertainment . streaming platforms allow people to watch films, series, concerts and others programmes from their home at any time. This is often cheaper than buying cinema ticket and do not have to travel and follow fix schedule. Moreover, modern technology offer provide huge variety of content, meaning that viewrs can easily choose something that matches their interests. for instance, a person can watch an international film on a smartphone or television without visiting cinema.

On the other hand, theatres and cinemas continue to play important role in society. From an economic perspective , they create economic for actors ,technicians, cleaners, managers and other workers. They also generate income for local businesses such as restaurants and shops. Culturally, theatres provide people with an opportunity for experience live performances and traditional form of art. Similarly, cinemas offer shared experience that cannot completely replace by watching film alone at home. for example, watching a new movie on a large screen with good sound can make the experience more exciting and memorable.

in my opinion, although online change entertainment has change the way people consume media, cinema, and theatres are still important. online platforms are convenient and affordable but they cannot fully replace social, economic and cultural benefits of physical venues. Therefore, both form of entertainment are likely to coexist in the future.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the convenience of streaming versus the economic and cultural value of physical venues. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the economic argument could be expanded with more specific examples beyond just listing job titles. The position is clear throughout, but the depth of analysis is more characteristic of a Band 6.0, as some points are stated rather than fully explored or supported with detailed evidence.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the one hand', 'Moreover', and 'In my opinion', which help guide the reader. However, there are instances where the flow is slightly mechanical or repetitive. Referencing is generally clear, but some transitions between sentences feel abrupt. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the overall progression of ideas is logical, meeting the requirements for a Band 6.0. To reach a higher band, the student should aim for more sophisticated linking words and smoother transitions between complex ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to convey their meaning clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'streaming platforms', 'live performances', and 'traditional form of art'. However, there are noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'continue have to economic' and 'online change entertainment has change'. These errors do not impede communication, but they demonstrate a limited range and occasional inaccuracy. The student needs to focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring correct word forms to move into the Band 7.0 range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the student attempts complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'do not have to travel and follow fix schedule' (missing subjects/incorrect verb forms) and 'cannot completely replace by' (passive voice error). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some missing spaces after periods and incorrect capitalization. While these errors rarely prevent the reader from understanding the message, they are frequent enough to keep the score at a Band 6.0. More attention to subject-verb agreement and consistent use of passive voice is recommended.
