Student answer (Band 5.5)
Theatres and cinemas are gaining popularity among youngsters in this modern era of technology. Many individuals argue that theatres and cinemas are still crucial both culturally and economically. While others believe that cinemas and theatres are losing popularity because of digital era entertainment. In this essay, I will share both these views as well as my own opinion.
On the one hand, most people believe that era of theatres and cinemas is coming to its end just because of technology advancements. In today life everyone can watch movies from online platforms. Some movies are uploaded for free in YouTube and telegram platforms as here youngsters do not need to pay the entry fee as it was collected in theatres and cinemas. For instance, YouTube and mini tv like movies apps are allowing the common people to watch movie for free at anywhere and anytime.
On the other hand, some citizens argue that theatres and cinemas are still vital both culturally and economically. This is also a crucial aspect because most people want to enjoy the movies in theatres because this spread a sense of belongingness and community. All individuals from different background together come to see a particular movie, this represents the cultural aspects. Before watching the movie, every person has to pay to theatres and cinemas to enjoy a particular movie, this makes our nation more economically strong by contributing money. For example, theaters at Delhi are charging fee for enjoying a movie, which contribute it economically as well as, many different castes and religion people make a sense of togetherness at a cinema hall, which makes it culturally rich.
In conclusion, although cinemas are still crucial both economically and culturally yet, I believe that theaters are losing importance because of online platforms like You Tube.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The essay addresses both sides of the argument and provides a personal opinion, fulfilling the basic requirements of the prompt. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument regarding the economic importance of cinemas is limited to the idea of paying entry fees, which is a very basic observation. The conclusion is also slightly contradictory; you state that cinemas are 'still crucial' but then conclude that they are 'losing importance.' To reach a higher band, you should provide more nuanced analysis, such as discussing the unique sensory experience of a cinema versus the convenience of home streaming, rather than focusing primarily on cost.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use basic cohesive devices like 'On the one hand,' 'On the other hand,' and 'In conclusion' to signal shifts in the argument. However, the flow within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical. For example, the transition between the cultural and economic points in the second body paragraph is abrupt. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, such as the use of 'this' to refer to broad concepts, which can make the logical progression feel a bit repetitive. Improving the variety of linking words would enhance the overall flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. You rely on common phrases like 'gaining popularity,' 'modern era,' and 'crucial.' There are some instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'mini tv like movies apps' and 'different castes and religion people,' which sound unnatural. To improve, you should aim to incorporate more topic-specific collocations related to the film industry or digital media, such as 'cinematic experience,' 'on-demand streaming services,' or 'socio-economic impact.' The current range is sufficient to communicate your points, but it does not demonstrate a sophisticated command of the language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Common issues include missing articles (e.g., 'in YouTube,' 'at Delhi'), incorrect preposition usage, and subject-verb agreement errors (e.g., 'this represent the cultural aspects'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some run-on sentences and comma splices. To improve, focus on mastering article usage and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed with greater accuracy. The errors do not prevent understanding, but they are frequent enough to limit the score.
