Student answer (Band 6.0)
In the technological era, a section of society deems that there is no need of theatres and cinemas as individuals can watch all the entertainment they want online, while others assert that theatres and cinemas are still important, both economically and culturally. I will delineate both views along with my perspective in the subsequent paragraphs.
There are a number of reasons supporting that theatres and cinemas are no longer important. The predominant one is a large variety of entertainment and no limits on sitting positions. To be more specific, there are a lot of OTT platforms that provide a large number of shows and movies from all around the world, which is not available in cinemas. In cinemas and theatres, people have to sit in fixed positions, whereas watching content at home has no sitting issue. For example, reports of the latest survey showed that people prefer to watch content online due to the large variety available. Apart from this, people prefer online due to quality of content and can play and pause whenever required. To be more clear, advancement in technology offers better screens and speakers in mobiles, tabs and laptops which display content of great quality and people also pause and play or back the scene when required.
Paradoxically, theatres and cinemas are still important. On the paradoxical side, it helps to grow the economy. In other words, people spend some amount of their savings to purchase tickets and snacks, which help to contribute to the economic growth of a nation. For instance, in India, 2% of annual growth was noticed in the economy due to theatres and cinemas. Last but not the least, it preserves culture and provides some quality time with loved ones. To explain it, cultural shows are presented in the theatres, which help to promote the culture, and people also spend some time with their friends and family members.
In conclusion, a comprehensive statement is that there are some advantages of cinemas and theatres, but I firmly believe that people prefer to watch entertainment content online due to advancements in technology.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the convenience of online streaming versus the economic and cultural value of physical venues. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the claim that theatres contribute '2% of annual growth' in India lacks context or credibility, and the argument regarding 'sitting positions' is a bit simplistic. To reach a higher band, the student should provide more nuanced analysis rather than relying on repetitive points about 'pausing' or 'snacks'. The position is clear throughout, but the supporting arguments could be more sophisticated and better substantiated.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. The introduction and conclusion are present, and the progression of ideas is generally easy to follow. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'The predominant one', 'Apart from this', and 'On the paradoxical side'. However, some of these transitions feel slightly mechanical or unnatural, such as 'On the paradoxical side', which is not a standard idiomatic expression. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally repetitive, particularly the frequent use of 'people' and 'theatres and cinemas' to start sentences. Improving the variety of cohesive links and ensuring they flow more naturally would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, including terms like 'technological era', 'delineate', 'predominant', and 'comprehensive'. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, though some word choices are slightly awkward or imprecise, such as 'no sitting issue' or 'back the scene'. The repetition of basic phrases like 'theatres and cinemas' and 'watch content' limits the lexical variety. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey meaning clearly, it lacks the precision and sophistication required for a higher band score. Focusing on collocations and more varied synonyms would help elevate the lexical quality.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical inaccuracies. For example, 'a section of society deems that there is no need of theatres' is slightly unnatural; 'no need for' would be better. There are also minor errors in article usage and preposition choice, such as 'reports of the latest survey showed' (should be 'a report' or 'the latest survey results'). The sentence 'Last but not the least' is a common error; it should be 'Last but not least'. Despite these errors, the grammar does not impede communication, and the student shows a reasonable command of sentence construction.
