Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both views and provides an opinion, but the development of ideas is limited and often lacks clarity. The arguments regarding the economic and cultural importance of cinemas are underdeveloped, relying on vague statements like 'the old theatres are becoming obsolete'. Furthermore, the response falls short of the 250-word minimum requirement, which negatively impacts the depth of the discussion. While the position is clear, the supporting evidence is insufficient to fully explore the complexities of the topic. To improve, you should provide more specific examples and ensure each paragraph contains a well-developed argument that directly addresses the prompt's requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is often hindered by awkward phrasing and mechanical transitions. While cohesive devices such as 'On the one-hand' and 'In conclusion' are used, they are sometimes applied incorrectly or in a repetitive manner. The referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the flow of ideas. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words more naturally and ensure that each sentence logically follows the previous one to create a smoother, more cohesive argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally limited and repetitive. There are several instances of word-choice errors and non-standard collocations, such as 'official telifilms organizers' and 'the balance approach would work superior'. Some words are used incorrectly, such as 'versus' instead of 'verses' and 'obselete' (spelling error). While the meaning is generally conveyed, the range of vocabulary is not sufficient to demonstrate the flexibility required for higher bands. You should focus on learning topic-specific collocations and improving your accuracy with word forms to express your ideas more precisely.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'other thinks', 'theatres and cinemas have still important') and incorrect sentence structures. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and periods. While there is an attempt to use complex sentences, these are often faulty, which can impede the reader's understanding. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and subject-verb agreement. Proofreading your work for common errors like missing articles and incorrect verb tenses will significantly enhance the clarity and accuracy of your writing.
