Student answer (Band 5.5)

nowadays we're living in modern age. we're living in a digital world, where all the information is obtained in just one click. this world has now become a global village. we can communicate with the one who's living in another corner of the world in just one touch. internet provides us sources that make our lives easier.

when it comes to entertainment, people have their own preferences. every person has his/her own genre. some people love to watch action movies whereas some of them love to watch sci-fi movies. action movies are mostly watched in theatres. for example, spider-man ; brand new day is just released. people were eager to watch it in cinemas and theatres. movies like interstellar are mostly watched in theatres. people love to watch sci-fi movies in cinemas.

on the other hand, movies like The Hunt can be watched on home with family. movies which are filmed on a man, his life, his mistakes, his hardships, are worth watching with family. these people think that going to theatres is waste of money and time. cinemas requires money and time. some of them are expensive. these people prefer to watch movies at home and give time and privilege to their families.

in my opinion, people should go out in cinemas if they can afford. it is because, people will be aware of the maintenance of discipline. discipline is the most important thing in cinemas. we can go out with our friends, or families so that we can spend quality time with them.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both sides of the argument, but the development is limited. While you mention that some people prefer home viewing and others prefer cinemas, the discussion lacks depth regarding the 'economic and cultural' importance mentioned in the prompt. Your own opinion is stated in the final paragraph, but the reasoning provided—focusing on 'discipline'—is somewhat tangential and not fully explored. To improve, ensure you explicitly discuss the economic and cultural impacts of cinemas and provide more substantial reasons for your personal stance. The essay covers the requirements but remains at a superficial level of analysis.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is very limited and often repetitive. For example, you frequently start sentences with 'people' or 'movies', which makes the flow feel mechanical. There is a lack of linking words or transition phrases to connect ideas between sentences and paragraphs (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in contrast'). The progression of ideas is present but feels disjointed. Improving the variety of your linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is generally functional but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on basic terms like 'good', 'watch', and 'money'. There are some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'give time and privilege to their families' and 'maintenance of discipline', which do not quite capture the intended meaning in this context. To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more topic-specific vocabulary related to the film industry, cultural heritage, or economic impact, and work on using collocations more naturally. Avoid repeating the same words in close proximity.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures. While you attempt some complex sentences, they are often punctuated incorrectly or contain grammatical errors, such as 'cinemas requires money' (subject-verb agreement) and 'watched on home' (preposition error). There are also consistent issues with capitalization (e.g., 'nowadays', 'internet', 'spider-man'). To improve, you should focus on mastering subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Additionally, try to incorporate a wider variety of complex structures, such as relative clauses or conditional sentences, while ensuring they are grammatically accurate.
