Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is argued by many that cinemas are no longer popular as people can watch all kinds of entertainment online whereas other say that cinemas plays a vital role economically and culturally as many people enjoy watching movies in theatres. This essay will discuss both the views.
In the present time, it is believed by many that cinemas are not as important as it used to be because most of the citizens watch drama or entertainment on several platforms online. A good example for this is Netflix, people who are engaged in their work-life doesn't have time to go watch movies in theatres so they usually enjoy watching movies in their free time on netflix or prime video. However, busy adults and youngster who have exams don't usually go to theatres which has made it less important.
On the other hand, people believe that cinemas are important as it is a kind of buisness and is a source of income for many people however, plays a vital role for economy. Also, most of the people like to visit theatres as it has fascinating sound system with clarity and huge vibrant screen along with variety of snacks which really encourage residents to watch movies or dramas in cinemas because television screen or mobile screen are not as huge as the screens of cinema. Hence, theatres are still crucial for many citizens both culturally and economically.
Therefore, I believe that cinemas are the best place to watch any movie as we can have snacks along with great sound and screen. Furthermore we can enjoy with our friends and family and make unforgettable memories.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion in the conclusion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding the economic importance of cinemas is mentioned but not fully explored or supported with specific examples. The points made about the 'sound system' and 'snacks' are relevant but could be expanded to better illustrate the cultural and economic significance. To reach a higher band, ensure that each main point is supported by a more detailed explanation or a concrete example to demonstrate a deeper understanding of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. There is an attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'However', 'On the other hand', and 'Furthermore'. However, some of these transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive. The referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences within paragraphs could be improved to create a more natural, sophisticated connection of ideas. The conclusion is brief but effectively summarizes the writer's position.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'economically', 'culturally', and 'vibrant screen'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are occasional errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'buisness' instead of 'business'. To improve, the writer should aim to incorporate more precise and varied vocabulary to describe the impact of digital media and the unique experience of cinema-going.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('cinemas plays', 'people... doesn't have time') and awkward phrasing ('it is believed by many that cinemas are not as important as it used to be'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do indicate a need for more consistent control over complex structures. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and refining sentence construction will help improve the overall accuracy.
