Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this growing technology, some people think that theatres and cinemas are not as important as it used to before because all the entertainment is available on many platforms, they can watch from their, while some argue that theatres and cinemas are important or economy and culture. I disagree with second statement as my both perspectives is discussed further.

On one hand, watching entertainment online saves a lot of money and time. As a result, individual can watch any movie from home comfortably anytime and anywhere. For example, an office works can watch movie when coming home from the office, when he is on the way. Even a person can rewind the scene if he did not understood the dialogue. Furthermore, people can watch any international movie or web series on platforms as many entertainments do not come in theatres. These platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime and Hotstar and many more has a wide variety of movies and web series.

On the other hand, theatres and cinema is also important both economically and culturally by creating jobs by hiring security and ticket sellers. As a result, if people will not go to cinema halls their will be no job for security which can be an economic loss. Moreover, there will be tourism growth as by watching historical scenes and new restaurants and cafes people get attracted and travel to those places who spend money on hotels and transport. T

In conclusion, although it is necessary for both economically and culturally, I believe watch entertainment at on online platform is more convenient as saves money, time and people can watch wide variety of movies and web series at home comfortably.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the economic argument regarding tourism is a bit tenuous and lacks specific, well-explained examples. The introduction contains a contradiction where you state you disagree with the second statement, yet the second paragraph discusses the importance of theatres, which is the second statement. This creates confusion regarding your actual stance. To improve, ensure your position is consistent throughout and provide more depth to your supporting arguments rather than listing general points.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices such as 'On one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'Furthermore'. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is interrupted by awkward phrasing, such as the transition in the introduction. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly in the final paragraph where the connection between the economic benefits and your conclusion could be more smoothly integrated. Improving the variety of linking words would enhance the overall flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your main points. You use some topic-specific terms like 'web series' and 'platforms'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'In this growing technology' (instead of 'In this era of advancing technology') and 'office works' (instead of 'office worker'). The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on basic descriptors. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise academic collocations and avoid repetitive phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the reader's understanding. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('many entertainments do not come', 'theatres and cinema is'), missing articles, and awkward sentence construction ('as my both perspectives is discussed further'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage in long, run-on sentences. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would be beneficial.
